There’s real direction and clarity to this white with sliced dried apples, crushed stones and minerals on the nose, as well as hints of biscuit and praline. Some honeysuckle and lemon-grass undertones, too. It’s full-bodied, yet very tight and lively with a line of fresh acidity running through the palate, providing energy and depth. From the owner of Chacra and Burgundy’s Jean-Marc Roulot. Drinkable now, but much better in three to four years. Try after 2023.Inc. VAT£522.72 -

This is probably the finest answer to Puligny or Meursault in Argentina and it will be hard to pass by. Beautiful brioche notes give a fine creaminess with mineral, fine reduction, beeswax and a hint of white sesame to the lemon curd. Extremely textured and tense on the palate with fresh, medium acidity and a long, long finish. This is all about texture and purity. Also intellectual. Drink or hold. I love the beautiful aromas of sliced apples, pears and pear blossom. Cookies. Honey. Straw. Full-bodied yet very sleek and polished. Extremely smooth and refined. The 2020 Chardonnay Mainqué was made in partnership with the Burgundy winemaker Jean Marc Roulot with grapes from an old vineyard in Mainqué, Río Negro. Seventy-three percent of the wine was aged in mostly used French barrels, the rest in concrete tanks for 11 months. Yellow in the glass. The clear, expressive nose presents notes of acacia, hawthorn and honey with hints of pear and apple. Subtle aromas from the aging process enhance the complexity. Saline with expressive freshness, the flow is delicate while ginger notes develop at the back of the mouth. A rich, nuanced, vibrant wine.Inc. VAT£499.92 -
(6x75cl) 2021Wine Advocate (94)
The 2021 Mainqué Chardonnay is the second white here, produced by Jean-Marc Roulot from 40-year-old ungrafted vines in Mainqué in the Lunita property (where they regrafted the vines to Chardonnay), where they work with cover crops, no chemicals and bees. It fermented with indigenous yeasts, 70% in French oak barrels and 10% each in clay amphorae, concrete egg and stainless steel, and it matured for nine months, 70% in barrel and 10% each in concrete and stainless steel. It has the precision and purity of Roulot, which to a certain extent is the result of thorough work with the press. "He sent us the press program," Piero told me. "And we now have two presses. We are learning." When I thought about what was in common between the reds and the whites, I came up with three words: precision, purity and elegance. It has notes of white flowers and a touch of fennel and other aromatic herbs. It was harvested early in the morning and in the season, and the wine is light and refreshing, ethereal, weightless and with purity and precision. It's a delight! 24,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2021.Inc. VAT£259.24 -

Such a flinty nose that delivers a full package of minerality. Quarry, chalk, gun powder and lime. The nose really speaks to you. (12.9% alcohol): Pale-medium red. Tangy, shy aromas of raspberry, strawberry, cherry, peppery spices, horseradish and underbrush. Juicy, delicate and nicely delineated but youthfully tight, with pepper and herb notes accenting tart red berry flavors. Relies more on its bright acidity than on its dusty tannins for structure. Subtle and understated pinot if a bit undernourished. Not at the same level as the riper, deeper 2011 bottling.Inc. VAT£104.93 -
(6x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate (94)
The 2014 Cincuenta y Cinco feels very complete even at this early stage with good concentration, ripeness and balance. It combines the elegance of the 2013 with the exuberance of 2011. Since 2011 they went for a light toast of the barrels and also started using larger volume, 600-liter formats. The oak feels perfectly integrated in the wine. In the context this is more powerful, and has a little more concentration and ripeness, but it's still a very balanced and fresh. Different to 2013, but at the same high-quality level. 19,000 bottles produced.Inc. VAT£334.32 -
Wine Advocate (99)
The élevage for the 2021 Cincuenta y Cinco was different from the past; they have now aged 40% in concrete tanks (it used to be 25%), 40% in French oak barrels and 20% in clay amphorae for nine months. They use cover crops in the vineyard, where they don't even use sulfur or copper. It fermented in a round and wide concrete vat with indigenous yeasts for 12 to 15 days with full clusters and an infusion with little extraction. It has moderate ripeness and 12% alcohol, with more tension than the others. This is basically the same wine as the Sin Azufre but with a little more oak, which is barely noticeable but with some spiciness and Burgundian character developing tantalizing notes of violet pastille with time in the glass. It has a bright ruby color and a complex and subtle nose full of elegance and nuance. The palate is medium-bodied, with very fine tannins and supple flavors, primary, young and apparently weightless and ethereal but full of inner energy. It has bright flavors of fresh cherries and raspberries and a citrus twist of orange peel that adds freshness. Gobsmacking! 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2021.Inc. VAT£391.84 -
James Suckling (96)
Fresh and floral nose with tiles, vibrant red berries and pomegranate. Stony, mineral verve. Pure and expressive with good tension on the medium-bodied palate. Silky, very nimble and elegant. Vinous (87)
Deep, bright red-ruby, the darkest of this trio of pinot releases by far. Wild, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, meat, violet and leather. The palate similarly conveys a somewhat rustic game and leather quality, and does not appear to possess enough flesh and fruit to support its elevated acidity. Ultimately a bit hollow in the middle palate. Finishes with dusty, drying tannins and a slightly tart quality. Not quite squeaky-clean, with the fruit currently suppressed. (I tasted all of these wines twice, and each pair of bottles was similar.)Inc. VAT£157.73 -

From a site on the other (southern) side of the appellation, the 2020 Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Pinot Noir saw quite a bit more stems and was fermented with 40% stems and brought up in 20% new oak. It has a wonderful nose of ripe red and black currants as well as subtle woodsmoke, dried herbs, and forest floor. This carries to a pure, medium-bodied, balanced Pinot Noir with ripe tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It opens up nicely with time in the glass and will no doubt benefit from another year or two of bottle age.In Bond£749.00 -

The 2021 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is scented of raspberry, cranberry, autumn leaves and spicy undertones. The palate is surprisingly powerful with concentrated, layered fruit, spice and floral character. It has abundant, grainy tannins, shimmery acidity, and a very long, perfumed finish. It deserves 3-5 years in bottle. In Bond£660.00 -

The most fragrant and multidimensional wine of the range, the 2022 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is floral, oceanic, mossy and graceful on the nose. The palate straddles lavish decadence with silky refinement, perfectly displaying how this vineyard doesn't show all its cards at once, ceaselessly gaining in amplitude and volume but never weight. The finish combines delicious richness, bracing acidity and admirable focus. A beautiful showing of a classic site in a challenging year, this should be a pleasure to follow over the next decade. In Bond£630.00
