Burgundy 2022 En Primeur: Blue Skies Over Beaune, Verdant Vines In Vosne

After the unusually cold and small-yielding 2021, the 2022 vintage swung back to what we might consider the “new norm”. With an overall abundance of warmth and sunshine, timely rainfall in June and August helped to balance out any effects of the heat. Early impressions tell a story of wines in general produced with more richness and concentration than their predecessors, with the best of them retaining all important freshness and disarming equilibrium.

Jasper Morris is the first critic to release the 2022 vintage report. He praised the vintage as "bountiful and beautiful" and recommends collectors to consider cellaring the wines.

"Vintages that came to mind were 1985 for the health of the grapes, 1999 for the size of the crop and the relative consistency of quality though with a bias towards the Côte de Beaune, and 2002 – just short of top flight but a really lovely flavour profile of medium density and longevity." Denis Carre Pommard Noizons 2022 is a focused, terroir-driven red from France, Burgundy, Pommard, shaped by the appellation’s hallmark tension between dark fruit depth and savoury structure. The 2022 vintage delivers ample ripeness, yet this cuvée is most compelling for its firm, finely grained tannins and a mineral, iron-tinged backbone that keeps the palate precise. Expect Pommard’s classic register of black cherry and plum, lifted by subtle floral nuances, with notes of spice and undergrowth emerging as it opens. The finish is long, dry and emphatically gastronomic, built for cellaring rather than immediate charm. Serve with roasted game birds, duck or slow-braised beef to meet its authority.
