Burgundy 2022 En Primeur: Blue Skies Over Beaune, Verdant Vines In Vosne
After the unusually cold and small-yielding 2021, the 2022 vintage swung back to what we might consider the “new norm”. With an overall abundance of warmth and sunshine, timely rainfall in June and August helped to balance out any effects of the heat. Early impressions tell a story of wines in general produced with more richness and concentration than their predecessors, with the best of them retaining all important freshness and disarming equilibrium.
Jasper Morris is the first critic to release the 2022 vintage report. He praised the vintage as "bountiful and beautiful" and recommends collectors to consider cellaring the wines.
"Vintages that came to mind were 1985 for the health of the grapes, 1999 for the size of the crop and the relative consistency of quality though with a bias towards the Côte de Beaune, and 2002 – just short of top flight but a really lovely flavour profile of medium density and longevity." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
"All other things being equal, I would recommend going large in 2022, large in the sense of a broad range because there are so many really good wines at all levels." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin "Mes Cinq Terroirs" comes from the north of the appellation and includes one-third of whole bunches due to the acidity being lower than the Marsannay. It has a beautiful bouquet like last year, pure with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, superb mineralité and vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit, Earl Grey and light tertiary scents, very cohesive with a persistent finish. This should age extremely well in bottle. In Bond£1,000.00 -

Desaunay-Bissey Chambolle 1er Cru Musigny Combe d'Orveau 2022 is a finely chiselled red from France, Burgundy, Chambolle-Musigny, drawn from the coveted Combe d’Orveau sector bordering the Musigny slope. In 2022, this terroir’s stony, well-drained soils and cool combe influence translate into a wine of poised intensity: lifted wild red berry and cherry, rose petal and subtle spice, underpinned by a savoury, mineral line.
In keeping with serious Chambolle practice, the emphasis is on purity of fruit and textural finesse rather than overt extraction, with oak handled to support—never dominate—the perfume and silky tannins. The finish is long, precise and quietly authoritative, capturing the site’s hallmark combination of aerial fragrance and Musigny-adjacent depth. Decant in youth; cellar to reveal further nuance.

A deep, dark, and dramatic with a broody black fruited aromatics packed with violets, black cherry, tilled earth, sweet spices, and a subtle bresaola cured meat complexity. The palate is silky, soft, and multi-dimensional with a deceptively powerful structure and frame, tastefully draped in blueberry and black currant fruits with chalky dry tannins and a tangy black cherry vivacity on the concentrated mouth coating finish. A simply stunning vintage from the Domaine with clear old vine poise, power, and intensity. Another great rendition of this famous Grand Cru.In Bond£1,033.50 -
