These wines often blend international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with local varieties. Notable vineyards in Bolgheri include Tenuta San Guido, known for its iconic Sassicaia, and Ornellaia, which produces the renowned Ornellaia wine.

Vinous (87+)The 2014 Torrione, Petrolo's Sangiovese-based blend, comes across as a touch compact, with less of the fleshiness and radiance of the best years. Dark stone fruit, smoke, tobacco, herbs and scorched earth are nicely delineated, but in this vintage, the Torrione can only offer modest depth. The short, abrupt finish is another reminder of how challenging this vintage was. |

Potent and dense, with imposing tannins, the 2017 needs time in bottle to be at its very best. In 2017, the Torrione is a bit richer than is typically the case, so patience is key. |
