An inviting mix of cloves, cherry sauce and violet pastille keeps me coming back to the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino again and again. It’s silky and supple on the palate, with ripe wild berry fruits contrasted by savory herbal tones and spice. Nuances of licorice linger under an air of hauntingly dark inner florals, as this finishes potent and delicately structured. Only a short stay in the cellar will be needed to allow the 2018 to fully shine.Inc. VAT£382.33 -

Just a baby today, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is darkly alluring with a youthfully coy bouquet that requires coaxing as dusty earth and dried flowers slowly take on hints of incense and black cherries. It flows easily across the palate, silky and refined with building tension as brisk acidity and minerals mingle with edgy tannins toward the close. The 2019 finishes dramatically long and structured with a pleasantly bitter tinge. A resonance of salted licorice and cedar lingers on and on. Valdicava has captured the radiance of the vintage.Inc. The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano continues to develop very positively. This huge, concentrated Madonna del Piano dazzles for the richness of its fruit and the delineation of its aromas. The clean, vibrant finish suggests many years of cellaring potential. The Valdicava Brunellos are often misunderstood when young because they possess so much richness, but with time in bottle the wines turn more delicate and complete. Here's an unforgettable wine that absolutely makes the case for 2007 being one of the best vintages of late in Montalcino. The wine is broad and polished with masculine tones of dark fruit, leather and tobacco. These aromas evolve so quickly and with such pulsing intensity, the wine comes alive suddenly. There are dusty mineral shadings at the back with tightly textured tannins. Hold 10 more years.Inc. VAT£986.75 -

Deep ruby-red. Toasty oak and vanilla complicate red cherry and underbrush aromas and flavors. Then rich, dense and concentrated, but lovely violet lift provides clarity and cut to the suave flavors of red cherry, red currant, flint and vanilla. This opens with savory, truffle and meaty aromas with a complex and quite cryptic nose that delivers a wealth of ripe plums and cherries, cedar and fresh, violet-like flowers, as well as some earthy nuances. Deep ruby-colored with a light purple tinge, the 2016 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Madonna Del Piano takes on another gear with its rich perfume unfolding with lavender, black cherry, cassis, fresh leather, licorice, fresh soil, and sage. The wine is full-bodied, with a ripe velveteen texture, while maintaining freshness, and it is elegantly rounded through the mid-palate, with notes of black plum, Earl Grey, scorched earth, and tea leaf. A deeper red hue with light garnet at the rim, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Montosoli is absolutely gorgeous on the nose, with saddle leather, ripe cherries, amaro spice, blood orange, and a savory earthy character that feels distinctly of the site. The palate is medium to full-bodied yet weightless, with angular tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, salty finish that just keeps building. The 2011 Rosso di Montalcino is the result of a severe selection that resulted in no Brunello being bottled in this vintage, a decision I imagine few producers are prepared to make. Tobacco, dried herbs and sweet red cherries all flesh out in this large-scaled powerful Rosso. There is plenty of depth to fill out the wine's broad frame. At the same time, the 2011 is clearly evolving fairly quickly and needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later.Inc. VAT£200.69 -

Deep ruby. Initially reticent aromas open slowly with aeration and a hint at dark red cherry, blueberry, underbrush, plus a perfumed violet topnote. Bright, juicy and suave, with a seamless quality to the tannins that provide backbone to the ripe blue and black fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes long and very pure, with a charming, easy to drink quality, though this will repay cellaring. A suave, silky wine that boasts the most refined tannins of any wine I tasted from Abruzzo this year, but it’s neither the most complex nor most concentrated Montepulciano d’Abruzzo this venerable estate has ever made. That said, it’s magical texture is one you won’t soon forget. The first Montepulciano d’Abruzzo released by Valentini since the very great 2006; the six year wait was worth it!.Inc. VAT£1,572.35 -

I can't wait to see how the 2007 ages, but the truth is that this is the kind of wine that is likely to be extremely rewarding and just plain delicious throughout its entire life. Vinous (94+)
The zesty and wickedly fresh 2018 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo enthralls with a perfumed dusting of confectioners’ spice over a core of lemon confit, lime zest and smoke. This is actually playful and energetic on the palate, packed full of acidity and a sizzling of salty minerals that create a reverberation of tension that travels to your core. A coating of primary concentration lingers on the palate through the lightly structured finale, promising longevity despite the 2018’s undeniably drinkable character today. Frankly, it’s hard not to drink instead of taste. In Bond£866.00
