The 2019 Biserno is flush with graphite mineral aromas and another layer of depth and complexity, with balsamic, Mediterranean herbs, and dark chocolate. It is composed of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, with a small proportion of Petit Verdot. The palate is full, structured, and ripe with kirsch and a dark chocolate covered cherry. It has an elegant touch of French oak, with cedar, vanilla bean, and more turned mineral earth. Full bodied and warming, but not overly ripe, this is deserving of time in cellar and then to drink over the coming 20 years.Inc. VAT£764.38 -

Varietal tones of Cabernet Franc are the dominant force in the 2011 Lodovico (that also sees an important bending element of Petit Verdot). This wine exudes power and muscular determination with a long tail of ripe black fruit that follows at the end. This was a very warm vintage, and the wine stops extremely short of tasting overtly jammy—although the careful nature of its fruit maturity and sweetness is quite evident nonetheless. Some extra perspective and sharpness is given by the dusty mineral notes that frame the wine.Inc. VAT£521.29 -

The 2013 Lodovico seems to point towards a different style than that which Lodovico Antinori first favored at Tenuta di Biserno. The wine's translucent color, lifted aromatics and mid-weight structure are a significant departure from the past. Wonderfully lifted, fragrant and expressive, the 2013 has so much to offer. Blood orange, mint, sweet spice and raspberry jam lead into the silky, mid-weight finish in this supremely elegant wine.Inc. VAT£1,432.43 -

Produced since 2007 in Bibbona, bordering Bolgheri, Lodovico is a relatively young label managed by Lodovico Antinori. Annual production is below 10,000 bottles, and the exact blend is not revealed. Cabernet Franc-based, blended with tiny amounts of Merlot and Petit Verdot, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged 16 months in barrique, with notably less racking compared to an equivalent Bordeaux. The 2018 is not completely representative (try the outstanding and more concentrated 2016), but it describes fairly well the graceful, Margaux-like elegance of this SuperTuscan. Parma Violets, cedar, eucalyptus, wild raspberry and coffee grounds outline its complexity. Silky tannins are integrated with refreshing acidity.Inc. VAT£994.39 -

The Tenuta di Fessina 2022 Etna Bianco A' Puddara (in the bottle with the dark blue label) shows an enhanced mineral side with sharp contours, which is contrasted against a creamy side with orchard fruit and saffron. This is a mid-weight release of 11,500 bottles that was aged in large French oak casks for 12 months on the fine lees followed by an additional 12 months in bottle. Fruit comes from a four-hectare parcel of alberello (bush-trained) vines in Contrada Spadatrappo (in Biancavilla). The 1999 Tenuta di Trinoro (70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot) presents a distinctly over-ripe, almost raisinated personality, along with notes of chocolate and sweet toasted oak on a massively concentrated frame, with outstanding length and a lingering touch of sweetness on the finish. It shows excellent balance but should be a relatively early-maturing Tenuta di Trinoro. As befits a producer who pushes the envelope, with this wine Franchetti seems to have gone a bit too far.Inc. If you ask Andrea Franchetti to name his two favorite vintages of the past, they are 2001 and 2009. The 2009 Tenuta di Trinoro is indeed an outstanding blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is showing beautifully right now and promises more excellence to carry it forward over the years. At the moment, it is seamless and infinite with a superior sense of balance and dark fruit integrity. It speaks in a loud, clear and articulate voice. The wine's appearance shows a dark, impenetrable color that underlines the ideal growing conditions of the vintage and the slow fruit-ripening. The aromas are stunning and perfectly balanced, showing both elegance and power. The tannins deliver dimension and a firmly unyielding quality that bodes very well for the future evolution of this stunning wine.Inc. VAT£1,525.63 -

Another stunning wine, the 2012 Tenuta di Trinoro wraps around the palate with stunning depth and power. Today, the flavors are incredibly primary, but it is the wine's textural depth and nuance that impress. The 2012 boasts tremendous concentration, but there are no hard edges, just pure fruit and voluptuousness to burn. Readers should give the 2012 another 2-3 years in bottle.Inc. VAT£1,016.46 -

Andrea Franchetti's 2014 Tenuta di Trinoro represents the vintner's definitive shift to a more elegant and focused style of winemaking. This wine was once celebrated for its super ripe aromas and sweet, jammy flavors. But this cool vintage hammers home a new approach that sees less bulk and density—something Franchetti has been enthusiastically embracing over the past five years or so. The results are stratospheric. The Tenuta di Trinoro property sees pretty high average temperatures in summer. The quality of fruit offers special grace and elegance in cool years like this. Among the many samples I have tasted across Tuscany from the 2014 vintage, Tenuta di Trinoro is a memorable wine and a landmark achievement.Inc. VAT£630.38 -

The 2015 Trinoro is soft, silky and nuanced. Although a very pretty and expressive wine, the 2015 doesn’t quite have the dimension or complexity of the very finest years. Admittedly, that is a very high bar. Today, the 2015 comes across as a bit understated and hushed, two adjectives I can't believe I am using to describe a Trinoro wine. Time in the glass finally allows the 2015 to start opening up. I would cellar the 2015 for at least a few years, as it is not close to being fully expressive.Inc. VAT£927.42 -

The 2016 Trinoro is one of the most extraordinary wines I have ever tasted from Trinoro and proprietor Andrea Franchetti. This is a beautiful wine with infinite depth. Born in a hot and dry vintage, the 2017 Tenuta di Trinoro (a blend of 69% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon) never steps over the line into jammy or overripe territory. In fact, the wine is masterfully restrained and elegantly managed. Andrea Franchetti dealt with a harvest that, as he put it, yielded "tiny berries, all skin and seeds and no juice." I only feel the heat of the vintage in the tannins, which are a bit dryer and more astringent in this wine. This full-bodied Tuscan red boasts deep layers of black fruit, spice, tar and campfire ash. About 7,000 bottles were made. Give the wine an extra year or two of bottle aging to allow those tannins to soften up just a bit.Inc. VAT£140.65 -
Wine Advocate (98+)
Andrea Franchetti's 2018 Tenuta di Trinoro reminds me of the wines he made a decade ago or more. This dark, full and concentrated red blend shows a good amount of the power and the ripe, fruit-forward appeal that I associate with the wines made from those golden years from 2001 to 2007. There is a beautiful fullness and opulence here that wraps thickly over the palate with blackberry, rum cake, charred meat and black licorice. This blend of 59% Cabernet Franc and 41% Merlot offers up aromas of spice, mahogany and some of the grilled herbs or rosemary that you would associate with the Cabernet. The finish is super long and rich, with elegant tannins and lasting fruit momentum. Despite that slightly retro or nostalgic full-throttle bouquet that I described above, the mouthfeel is more tapered, fine and ethereal that you might expect. Some 7,000 bottles were made. You get all sorts of surprises from this beautiful, soulful wine.Inc. VAT£553.96

As befits a producer who pushes the envelope, with this wine Franchetti seems to have gone a bit too far.In Bond£2,979.00 -

The tannins deliver dimension and a firmly unyielding quality that bodes very well for the future evolution of this stunning wine.In Bond£1,250.00 -

Readers should give the 2012 another 2-3 years in bottle. In Bond£825.00 -

Among the many samples I have tasted across Tuscany from the 2014 vintage, Tenuta di Trinoro is a memorable wine and a landmark achievement. In Bond£512.00 -

(3x150cl) 2015Vinous (96)
The 2015 Trinoro is soft, silky and nuanced. Although a very pretty and expressive wine, the 2015 doesn’t quite have the dimension or complexity of the very finest years. Admittedly, that is a very high bar. Today, the 2015 comes across as a bit understated and hushed, two adjectives I can't believe I am using to describe a Trinoro wine. Time in the glass finally allows the 2015 to start opening up. I would cellar the 2015 for at least a few years, as it is not close to being fully expressive. In Bond£753.61 -

(6x75cl) 2016Vinous (100)
The 2016 Trinoro is one of the most extraordinary wines I have ever tasted from Trinoro and proprietor Andrea Franchetti. Deep and yet also silky, with exceptionally refined tannins and exquisite balance, the 2016 has so much to recommend it. Dark raspberry jam, white chocolate, mint and rose petal notes are all finely knit in this sublime, exquisitely beautiful wine. The finish alone boasts mind-bending intensity and persistence. In Bond£944.00 -

Give the wine an extra year or two of bottle aging to allow those tannins to soften up just a bit.In Bond£114.00 -
Wine Advocate (98+)
You get all sorts of surprises from this beautiful, soulful wine.In Bond£455.00
