Exciting New Releases from South African Sensation | Minimalist Wines 2022 Syrahs
Bottling the 2018 vintage as his inaugural vintage, Sam Lambson impressed Neal Martin in ways that few new producers have, and today we are thrilled to offer two of the latest releases of Lambson’s flagship 'Stars in the Dark' Syrah along with the 'No Place Like Home' Syrah, a new bottling that made its debut with the 2021 vintage.
- Sam Lambson was just 21 years old when he bottled his first vintage of the Stars in the Dark Syrah, a vintage that won unofficial recognition as the wine of the show at the 2019 New Wave Tasting in London.
- The subsequent vintage of the same wine received a stunning 97 points from Neal Martin and was one of just two South African wines to be selected as Vinous’ Wine of the Week (did we mention Neal Martin also named it as one of his cellar favourites?).
- Arguably, Sam Lambson qualifies as one of the latest sensations from South Africa and today, not only do we have the latest vintage of his flagship Stars in the Dark Syrah, we have also secured allocations of yet another brilliant new Syrah bottling called No Place Like Home.
- Fruit for Stars in the Dark comes from two cool climate, low-altitude Syrah parcels from Cape Agulhas while No Place Like Home is produced from fruit from a 3-hectare vineyard in Elgin.
- As the name of Lambson’s label suggests, wines are made with minimal intervention.
- The 2022 Stars in the Dark received 96 points from Neal Martin while the 2022 No Place Like Home received 94 points from Neal Martin, representing some of the finest examples of South African Syrah for the vintage.
- Given the strong accolades behind these wines, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that these typically sell out quickly on release, so clients should take full advantage of our multi-case discount on this stellar set of wines.
‘The red fruit on the nose seems to "hug" the olfactory senses, very pure and beautifully delineated, an underlying mineralité gaining momentum with aeration. The medium-bodied palate has fine-grained tannins, extremely well-balanced with a precise, edgy finish, black pepper and black tea lingering temptingly. This continues Lambson's strong run of form and comes highly recommended.’

‘There is a very seductive tenderness here. Sophisticated Syrah…but also delicious!’
