Croix de Labrie
Chateau Croix de Labrie is one of the smallest Grand Cru estates in St. Emilion. One of the last remaining Garage wines from the 1990s (meaning the production is small enough to be aged in the owner’s garage). Michel Rolland and Jean Luc Thunevin are the consultants. The wine is lush, seductive, open and drinks well young.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Croix de Labrie offers scents of wild blueberries, Black Forest cake and kirsch with touches of garrigue and tilled soil plus a waft of stewed tea. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and with a firm frame of grainy tannins, it has a lovely line of freshness taking the opulent fruit to a long finish.Inc. VAT£740.47 -

The 2018 Croix de Labrie has really come together beautifully over the last two years. Inky and layered in the glass, the 2018 possesses striking depth and tons of character. Sweet floral and spice aromas lift a core of inky dark red fruit. Mocha, spice, lavender and blood orange appear later, adding further shades of complexity. A wine of tremendous harmony and class, Croix de Labrie is impressive, to say the least.Inc. VAT£292.60 -

The focus and texture of this wine is really something. It’s totally transparent with blackberries, blueberries, earth, stone and mushrooms. Flowers too. Full-bodied with firm tannins that give super form and length to this. Freshness. Almost all merlot with a tiny dash of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Perhaps the best ever? Certainly at the same level as the 2019. About 14,000 bottles made.Inc. VAT£173.21 -

This is very unique and spicy, with white pepper, salt, iodine and oyster shell. Blackberry and black licorice, too.
