Domaine Hubert Lamy
About Domaine Hubert Lamy
Lamy is a historic name in Burgundy, with a vine growing history in St-Aubin stretching as far back as 1640. However, it is Olivier Lamy, the current owner and winemaker of the family estate, who put this artisanal estate on the international fine wine stage.
A diligent vigneron representing the new generation of exciting winemakers, Olivier is keen to make progress in both his vineyard and cellar. Having sharpened his craft at Méo-Camuzet before taking over the family estate in 1996, he established a very sharp acumen for identifying the best and oldest sites. Adding his natural winemaking instinct to more technical knowledge such as how to train vines flexibly, his exquisitely fine and terroir-expressive wines are celebrated by Burgundian connoisseurs the world over.

The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes is one of the more reserved wines in the range, unwinding in the glass with aromas of orange zest, confit citrus, crisp yellow apple and white flowers. It's medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with racy acids and a long, saline finish. Forget it for the better part of a decade in the cellar and reap the rewards, even if it will be approachable sooner.Inc. VAT£113.99 -

The 2017 Saint-Aubin La Princée is very pretty, displaying notes of pear, white flowers, citrus oil and a subtle touch of anise. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, tangy and elegantly textural, with excellent length on the precise finish.Inc. VAT£980.44 -

The 2018 Saint-Aubin La Princée is showing well, opening in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp Anjou pear. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and precise, it's saline and incisive, Lamy observing that some two-thirds of this parcel is decidedly cool and windy.Inc. VAT£453.49 -

The 2019 Saint-Aubin La Princée has a focused but quite neutral bouquet, fresh and well-defined though not powerful. The palate is sappy on the entry with lime and sour lemon and fine depth. Quite grippy on the finish, and a bit rough around the edges, but there’s lovely salinity here. Closure: DiamInc. VAT£122.52 -

A blend of 10 different parcels, the 2020 Saint-Aubin La Princée has a pretty nose of apple blossom and subtle granitic scents, focused with modest intensity. The palate is well-balanced with a dash of white pepper on the entry, fine acidity, quite fiery on the finish in a positive sense. Lots of energy coiled up here.Inc. VAT£382.69 -

The 2022 Saint-Aubin La Princée offers up notes of apple blossom, crisp orchard fruit and wet stones, followed by a medium-bodied, pure and racy palate that's fresh but charming. This will offer a broad drinking window.Inc. VAT£370.69 -

The 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières Blanc offers subtle traces of orange blossom and blackcurrant leaf on the nose. I suspect that it will develop more intensity by the time of bottling. The palate is brisk and saline on the entry with good acidity, very saline with a noticeable marine/iodine influence toward the satisfying finish. This is an intriguing Santenay Blanc that will be fascinating to watch evolve.Inc. VAT£131.33 -

Aromas of green apples, white flowers and wet stones introduce the 2017 Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières, a medium to full-bodied, searingly chalky wine with striking phenolic structure, tangy acids and a serious mineral kick on the finish. Of all the wines in the cellar, it might be this Santenay that most exemplifies Lamy's decision to pursue more dry extract in his whites.Inc. VAT£218.93 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2019 Santenay Clos des Gravières Blanc 1er Cru has a crisp saline nose, plenty of sea spray and light tangy seaweed elements here. The palate is quite closed with grapefruit and melon notes on the entry. I felt this cuvée needed some racking, which Olivier Lamy was planning soon and then it will gain a little more weight and length. But all the elements are here. It opens with aeration.Inc. VAT£99.59 -

The 2020 Santenay Les Gravières 1er Cru has quite an intense bouquet with liquorice-tinged citrus fruit, one of Lamy's "feisty" 2020s. The palate is pithy with plenty of extract, a texturally satisfyingly Santenay rather than one with overt fruit, something almost Rhône-like towards the finish. An intriguing prospect.Inc. The 2018 Santenay Clos des Gravières 1er Cru Rouge is actually working toward one of Lamy’s high-density vineyards at 20,000 per hectare, although the interpolated young vines are too young to go into the blend at the moment. This has lovely red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit aromas, very pure and harmonious. The palate is lively and effervescent on the entry, with chalky tannins and bright red currant and cranberry fruit toward the finish. Excellent.Inc. VAT£524.29 -
