Domaine Hubert Lamy
About Domaine Hubert Lamy
Lamy is a historic name in Burgundy, with a vine growing history in St-Aubin stretching as far back as 1640. However, it is Olivier Lamy, the current owner and winemaker of the family estate, who put this artisanal estate on the international fine wine stage.
A diligent vigneron representing the new generation of exciting winemakers, Olivier is keen to make progress in both his vineyard and cellar. Having sharpened his craft at Méo-Camuzet before taking over the family estate in 1996, he established a very sharp acumen for identifying the best and oldest sites. Adding his natural winemaking instinct to more technical knowledge such as how to train vines flexibly, his exquisitely fine and terroir-expressive wines are celebrated by Burgundian connoisseurs the world over.

Vinous (93)The 2018 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru offers scents of granite and wet slate on the nose with hints of quince. Very terroir expressive. The palate is gorgeous, so tensile and extremely poised, seductive touches of apricot jam and repeating quince towards the complex finish. What a fabulous Saint-Aubin. |

Vinous (93)The 2020 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru has a straight down the line limestone-scented bouquet with a touch of shucked oyster shells. The palate is very harmonious, taut and fresh, with crisp acidity and impressive tension. A surfeit of energy on the finish, this is a seriously fine Saint-Aubin. |

Wine Advocate (93)Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 St Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière from Hubert Lamy is showing some reduction on the nose, though rigorous swirling reveals subtle walnut and candle wax scents complementing the citrus fruit. You need to give it some bottle age to remedy that reduction though. The palate is well balanced with a sharp, citric, quite tangy entry. Dried orange peel and walnut come through towards the finish that feels a little clipped, but otherwise this is a sophisticated Saint Aubin that simply insists on some bottle age. |

Wine Advocate (88+)Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 St Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chateniere from Domaine Hubert & Olivier Lamy was not as clean on the nose as its peers, slightly cheesy at first and then light mothball scents. The palate is fresh on the entry with a pretty kiwi fruit and Cornice pear opening; but it never achieves the same level of tension and focus as other premier crus from the appellation, and it seems to drift on the finish. This may well be entering a dumb phase, and it may well re-find the promise it demonstrated from barrel, hence my plus sign. |

Vinous (92)The 2015 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has a crisp, earthy, almost zen bouquet that is more like a 2014 than a 2015. I appreciate the terroir expression here - you can sense the wine’s birthplace coming through with aeration. The nuanced palate is very well balanced and precise in style, displaying a fine bead of acidity and a gorgeous, lightly spiced, edgy, sappy finish that urges you back for another sip. Outstanding for the vintage. Highly recommended. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 10 closure) |

Vinous (92)The 2017 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has an intriguing undergrowth and bell pepper-scented nose. There is a fine line of acidity on the palate, very tensile and focused on the saline finish, residual hints of stem ginger lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent. |

Vinous (93)The 2018 Saint-Aubin Clos de Chatenière 1er Cru has exquisite delineation on the nose: wonderful focus and palpable sense of energy and tension. The terroir floods through here. The palate is very well balanced, with razor-sharp acidity, just a mote of reduction. Very good weight with a mineral driven finish that has wonderful sapidity. This is an extremely classy Saint-Aubin. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. |

Vinous (94)The 2019 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru expresses its terroir exquisitely on the nose, displaying wonderful mineralité and precision. The palate is well balanced, with a silver bead of acidity, and tensile from start to finish, yet expanding right at the end with mouthwatering sappiness. I remember this being impressive out of barrel last year, and now in bottle, Lamy has successful translated all that potential. Closure: Diam |

Vinous (93)The 2020 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru comes from steep limestone slopes and shows quite a bit of Coche reduction at the moment. But one can tell there is real tension and concentration here. The palate is tensile on the entry, freshly-sliced lime and tangy orange pith, fanning out with a sense of brio towards the finish. This is another classy offering from Olivier Lamy this vintage. |

Vinous (87-89)Pale yellow. Musky aromas of ripe apple, orange zest and toast; in a slightly oxidative phase. Fat and rich on the palate for a wine with 12.8% alcohol, with peach and apple flavors conveying a low-acid impression. A touch bitter on the finish. These vines on hard calcaire and friable clay produce small yellow grapes that ripen quickly at the end--and especially in 2015, according to Lamy. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Saint-Aubin Clos de Meix 1er Cru comes from hard limestone soils in the middle of the village. It has an intense, quite malic bouquet featuring Granny Smith apples, freshly sliced pear and sea spray. Vinous - Neal Martin (89)The 2022 Saint-Aubin Clos de Meix 1er Cru comes from hard limestone soils. It has hints of lemon rind, wet stone and flint on the correct and quite penetrating nose. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, but it eases off too soon on the finish, which feels conservative compared to others. Maybe it has a trick up its sleeve? It's a bit out-paced in the current line-up. |
