Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron
About Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron
Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron was founded in 1926 with the union of Jean Confuron of Vosne and Anne-Marie Bouchard of Premeaux. In 1980, the estate was split between the couple’s children, Christian and Jean-Jacques. Jean-Jacques had the good fortune of marrying Andrée Noëllat, one of the scions of the famed Noëllat family whose estate was subsequently acquired by Domaine Leroy, which explains why it is a common occurrence to find Confuron, Leroy, and Hudelot-Noëllat parcels side by side in several of the appellations. Today, the estate is led by Jean-Jacque’s daughter, Sophie Meunier-Confuron and her husband Alain Meunier.

Vinous (89-91)
Good deep red. Liqueur-like raspberry, black cherry, mocha and cocoa on the very ripe nose. Powerful but a bit rustic following the Nuits Boudots, with a dominant flavor of black cherry cough syrup. I find this harder to taste today. Plenty ripe, but the oak-driven tannins currently overshadow the wine's finishing fruit.Inc. VAT£3,456.58 -
Vinous (91)
(bottled in December of 2013): Bright medium red. Tight nose offers scents of raspberry, flowers and underbrush along with a somewhat rustic leathery quality. Sweet, intense and rather open-knit, offering considerable charm but also a hint of rusticity to its silky red fruit and mineral flavors. Strong juice, finishing with fine-grained, harmonious tannins and mounting length.Inc. VAT£1,322.69 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-91)
Tasted from barrel, unracked. As always, this is the ripest in the cellar but not too obvious at 13.8%. Concentrated deep purple. The power blocks the nose a little, then a good weight of fruit shows up behind on the palate. Darker fruit, more in the ripe cherry mode at the back of the palate, a tiny bit drier but not by much. Tasted: December 2021Inc. VAT£173.05 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)
(tasted from tank): Good medium red. Cool perfume of blackberry and violet. Lush, sweet and charming, especially for Clos Vougeot, offering a rather soft texture to its dark fruit, floral and mineral flavors. This seamless wine builds nicely on the finish, which features fine-grained tannins and lingering sweetness of fruit.Inc. VAT£2,234.47 -

Vinous (89)
Good full red. Wild, musky, slightly reduced aromas of dark berries, leather and meat. Very round and seamless, with strong notes of oaky torrefaction. Shows less fruit vibrancy than the Beaux Monts and comes across as more aggressive--and decadent--on the back end. Plenty of power and palate-saturating tannins here.Inc. VAT£1,487.09 -
Wine Advocate (91-93)
The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots, matured in 50% new oak, has a similar bouquet to the les Fleurières, but here the fruit is one of Confuron’s few that nudges more toward the red side of the fruit spectrum. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with a fine line of acidity. There is ample freshness here, a buxom Vosne endowed with sensuality and purity on the finish.Inc. VAT£1,675.78 -

Vinous (89-92)
Deep, saturated red with ruby highlights. More mineral-driven and less dominated by oak than the Boudots, with aromas of black fruits, spices, violet and pepper. Sweet in the mouth but with more energy and lift than the last few samples. Intensely flavored, youthful wine in a distinctly invigorating style. The rising palate-coating finish is broad, concentrated and long. These vines were picked last, notes Meunier, adding that they benefit from their position in the cooler combe above Les Cailles.Inc. Vinous (90)
(Alain Meunier bottled this in late April, a bit after most of his other 2010s, as he thought the tannins called for a longer elevage): Good medium red. Reduced aromas of smoked meat, animal fur and minerals. Good sweet red fruits here, with harmonious acidity framing the silky middle palate. This very ripe but nicely balanced wine finishes with late notes of iron, coffee and cocoa and tannins that are firm but not hard.Inc. VAT£1,487.09 -

Destemmed after the drought so as not to stress further. Assembled in tank. Fine mid purple. Another really attractive perfumed nose, they do seem to have hit the picking dates just right at J-J Confuron this year. Much more red than black fruit, extremely juicy, enough generosity here, some tannins to finish, but the fruit is the clear winner. Tasted: December 2021Inc. VAT£624.29 -

This is a stunning wine. This dark ruby colored beauty displays a beguiling nose of roses, violets, perfume, and candied red fruits that is followed by a super-ripe (sur-maturite!), unbelievably classy, and splendidly balanced character. Its mouth-coating, powerful (yet elegant), rich, and plump flavor profile is jam-packed with red and black fruits, flowers, and silky tannins that persist throughout its defined and amazingly long finish. This magnificent wine is a testimony to Meunier's dedication, work-ethic, and huge talent. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012+. Bravo!Inc. VAT£815.05 -

Medium ruby. Deep, sappy aromas of black raspberry, plum and cocoa powder. Thick, lush and seamless but sappy and vibrant. Offers lovely inner-mouth verve for a wine this dense. Finishes with graceful, dusty tannins and superb chocolatey persistence.Inc. VAT£1,017.20 -
