It coheres impressively in the glass despite a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with chiselled tannins. Plenty of freshness here, saline, vibrant and bright, this fans out gloriously towards the finish with a persistent, spicy, slightly exotic finish that does not detract from typicité. 80% whole bunch. Really intense black colour with a purple rim. The bouquet does not want to speak quite yet. A little bit of wood, a light herbaceous note from the stems which departs rapidly, but the promise of such intensity. Morello cherries? The 2021 Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru contains 80% whole bunches. It has a beautifully delineated and focused bouquet with blackberry, briary, wet limestone and a hint of juniper. It seems to grow with several swirls of the glass. The palate is very well-balanced with fine tannins that frame the sinewy red fruit, laced with white pepper and orange rind. It fans out wonderfully on the finish whilst retaining the class you expect from such a noble climat. This is deeply impressive even without its challenging context.Inc. VAT£1,571.52 -

5 Star Wine. Ruby purple, with a fine concentration of dark red fruit picked at optimum ripeness. The whole bunches (90%) give a further lift to the nose, while what starts well in bouquet really gains ground on the palate. Everything is perfectly in place, a really striking Clos de la Roche with a suave middle ground and long, perfectly balanced finish. As always, this is a vineyard built for ageing. Making me smile!
