Mee Godard
About Mee Godard
Born to South Korean farmers, adopted at nine months old by a French couple and then educated in France, Mee Godard certainly doesn’t fit the stereotype of a winemaker in Beaujolais. Still, she has earned great praise for her beautiful Beaujolais in a very short time. Jancis Robinson MW, in particular, says her wines “evolve beautifully with age, and yet they are compelling when young”. William Kelley concurs, and he has also been full of praise for this brilliant winery:
“The result is pure, elegantly structured, traditionally styled wines, with the substance to age but also considerable upfront charm. What’s more, each and every cuvée is beautifully differentiated by site. Everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended.” William Kelley, Wine Advocate
Mee Godard cut her teen in Oregon and Montepellier. Still, her practical experience came from her internships with the great names of Burgundy like Maison Chanson, Comtes Lafon and Corton André. Finally spreading her wings in 2013, she has fast ascended as a name to watch.
Her winemaking approach is resolutely classical. In the vineyard, organic conversion has been underway since the outset. In the winery, whole bunches are used, macerations last several weeks, with pump-overs and punch-downs, adapted vintage by vintage. Maturation follows in concrete, foudre, demi-muids and barrels, depending on the cuvée.
