Château Quintus
About Château Quintus
Formerly known as Château Tertre Daugay, Château Quintus took its new name in 2011, when it was acquired by Domaine Clarence Dillon, owner of the legendary Château Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The name “Quintus” was chosen because it represented the fifth wine in the stable of Domaine Clarence Dillon. The estate sits atop a 62-meter high limestone hillock at the south western end of the Saint-Émilion plateau, prime vinous real estate that counts Château Angélus, Château Ausone and Château Pavie amongst immediate neighbours. Spanning approximately 28 hectares, the vineyards are planted to 66% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Since the acquisition, Domaine Clarence Dillon has doubled the acreage of Château Quintus and modernized its cellars, elevating Château Quintus to the status it rightfully deserves.

The 2017 Quintus is super impressive today. Sweet floral and spice nuances give the 2017 its striking aromatic upper register. Rich and dense on the palate, Quintus is a bold, hedonistically opulent Saint-Émilion in 2017. Soaring Franc overtones play off the Merlot nicely, adding both aromatic presence and a real feeling of saline intensity that comes through, especially on the finish. Today, the 2017 is a touch exuberant - almost too much so. Another few years in bottle should help it settle down. The 2017 is not at all subtle, but it has a lot to offer. Here, too, élevage has done wonders for the wine.Inc. VAT£741.20 -
