    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2017 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (92-94)

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 80-year-old vines, containing 25% whole bunch fruit and matured in 75% new oak. The bouquet is completely different from Les Hauts Doix, displaying more density, darker fruit, more substance and a less airy style, but still very pure and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is plenty of lightly spiced black fruit, gentle grip, an appealing sense of symmetry and a longer tail on the finish than the Les Haut Doix. Superb.

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2019 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (91-93)

Matured in 25% new oak and 90% whole bunches, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is the most opulent of Groffier’s 2019s with kirsch and orange zest infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a little oak to be subsumed on the entry. Good weight, quite muscular for a Chambolle with liberally sprinkled black pepper enhancing the finish. A little stocky, bottle age will smooth any jagged corners.

      Tim Atkin MW (94)

These vines sit in deeply clay soils, which graciously help shield the vines from heat spells. Nicolas Groffier used 100% whole bunches (the berries are so small he doesn't want to damage the fruit) but only 20% new oak. The result is a finely scented Chambolle with pure black cherries, blackberry coulis and licorice. The medium-bodied structure is focused rather primly between the resounding acidic refreshment and sculpted tannins. 2025-35

      Vinous (90-92)

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru comes from Cordon-Royat-trained 80-year-old vines that encountered a lot of frost. Raised in 40% new oak, this has a tightly-wound bouquet that unfurls with redcurrant, cranberry and light blood orange scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the tensile red fruit; citrus fresh with a pleasant bitterness lending energy on the finish. Drink this fine Chambolle over the next 12-15 years.

Rich purple centre. A heightened bouquet compared to the Hauts Doix, with the little blood orange note from the iron oxide in the soil, and fresh acidity to finish. Less rounded, more precise. Fine tension here. One third new wood. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees impresses for its striking inner perfume, beautifully delineated fruit and impeccable overall balance. The 2012 is subtle, energetic and very, very pretty. Expressive blue/black fruits, licorice and floral notes inform the feminine, gracious finish. There is a lot to like here.
    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2013 (12x75cl)

      Vinous (89-91)

(vinified with 70% whole clusters; 40% new oak; 37 hectoliters per hectare produced): Dark bright red. Pure, vibrant aromas of black cherry, licorice and game, lifted by a floral tonote. Sappy, saline and intense, showing early sex appeal and balance to its high-pitched yet fully ripe dark fruit and licorice flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. (Incidentally, Groffier's Bourgogne Pinot Noir, frequently an outperformer for its modest appellation, is a potential knockout in 2013. Aromas of ripe black raspberry, violet and game lead to a sweet, lush palate that shows serious muscle and cut to the spicy dark fruit flavors.)
    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2014 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (90)

Good medium red. Complex nose combines red fruits, leather, game and sexy earth notes: classic Gevrey-Chambertin. Supple red fruit and spice flavors are framed by underlying minerality. Offers excellent balance and restrained sweetness. This village wine has turned out very well.
    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2015 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (90+)

Healthy dark red. Aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice, rock and game are slightly wild in an enticing way. At once rich and juicy in the mouth, with firm acidity giving the black fruit flavors a penetrating quality for the vintage. Comes across as clearly more tannic than the 2016 version but with plenty of buffering material. This very concentrated village offering finishes with surprising length and firm mineral-driven acidity, and may be in the process of shutting down in bottle.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées has a light nose with airy red fruit, quite tertiary in style, well defined if missing a bit of intensity. The palate is nicely poised on the entry, with crisp and slightly brittle tannins and fine acidity. It needs to develop more matière on the finish as it come across a little "skinny" at the moment. I feel that this is a cuvée that might have benefitted from some de-stemming.

    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2018 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (90-92)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées, which includes 20% whole bunch, has a well-defined bouquet of perfumed cranberry and raspberry fruit, undergrowth and light black pepper aromas. The palate is well balanced and quite pure in style, hints of blue fruit intermingling with red toward the lightly spiced, nuanced finish. Give it a couple of years in bottle and it will turn into a fine Gevrey to drink over 12–15 years.

      Vinous (90-92)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées is raised in used barrels with 20% whole bunches. Blackberry and briary on the nose, laced with a touch of seawater. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, fresh and vibrant with a slightly chalky textured finish. Plenty of vigor here - this elegant Gevrey-Chambertin should drink well for 10-12 years.

      Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)

One third whole bunch, no new wood. 13% as finished wine, picked at 12.5%. An even, crimson purple, the nose is quite gentle, but the fruit grows well behind, strawberry aromas with a savoury touch, good acidity and very persistent. A success. Tasted: December 2021

    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2021 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (85-87)

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées has a light nose with airy red fruit, quite tertiary in style, well defined if missing a bit of intensity. The palate is nicely poised on the entry, with crisp and slightly brittle tannins and fine acidity. It needs to develop more matière on the finish as it come across a little "skinny" at the moment. I feel that this is a cuvée that might have benefitted from some de-stemming.

20% new wood. A deep purple centre with bright rim. Classical pinot, perhaps more raspberry and cherry rather than the strawberry often found in this part of the appellation. A sweet intensity of fruit in the same register as the bouquet, with fine tannins, good acidity and length. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.
