    About VivaltuS

The Yllera family has been linked to viticulture and high-quality winemaking in the terroirs by the Duero river valley in Castilla y León, for many decades. In the 70s, brothers Jesús and Pepe Yllera decided to move forward and started bottling and selling the white wines that their family had been making and selling in bulk for generations.

In the present, the company is still family based and run by brothers Marcos and Carlos Yllera (sons of Jesús, nephews of Pepe) and Beatriz and Montxo Martinez (daughter and son of Ramón) alongside an excellent team of professionals in each department of the company.

In 2015 the family acquired the VivaltuS estate, a spectacular wine facility located between the castles of Peñafiel and Curiel de Duero in the edge of three different valleys (Duero valley, Cuco valley and Esgueva valley), an impressive building designed to create an iconic wine.

The wine is produced from some of the highest vineyards (1000m above sea level) and oldest vines (80-100+ years) owned by Ribera de Duero’s distinguished Yllera family and made by Jean-Claude Berrouet, winemaker at Château Pétrus for 40 years. Only 14,000 bottles are produced annually.

    • Vivaltus 2016 (1x300cl)

      Tim Atkin MW (97)

What a début! Even given the distinguished track record of consultant Jean-Claude Berrouet, this is a remarkable wine. Elegant and refreshing, it has very fine tannins, floral top notes, subtle oak and just a hint of leafiness from 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

      Tim Atkin MW (97)

How do you follow up a first release as stunning as the 2016? Simple: make a wine that's every bit as good, albeit from a very different vintage. This multi-zone blend of Tempranillo and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon uses high altitude vineyards in Fuentenebro as its core, which gives it remarkable freshness and lift. The tannins are silky, the oak svelte and aromatic, the fruit sweet and layered, the finish long and engaging. Rapidly confirming itself as one of Spain's best reds.

    • Vivaltus 2019 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (96)

The 2019 Vivaltus hails from Ribera del Duero and was aged up to 12 months in barrel and amphora. Garnet in color, it opens with licorice and wild herbs—laurel and meadow tones—then shifts into black and red fruit, adding complexity. The palate is compact, with reactive fine-grained tannins and a lightly angular structure, finishing with a soft chalky feel. A warmer vintage is evident in the riper fruit and tannin profile. It will evolve more quickly in bottle than the 2018.
