Highland Park Distillery is one of the world’s greatest single malt whiskies. In 2018, Highland Park ranked 2nd behind only Macallan in volume of auction sales. Located on the island of Orkney, the distillery was founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson. Eunson was a colourful character who was a butcher and church warden by day and an illicit whisky smuggler by night!

Highland Park is the only distillery to use peat from Orkney in the distillation process. This gives the resulting whisky its iconic smoky, slightly sweet flavour, rather than the briny, medicinal peatiness more common in Islay whiskies. Today it is one of the world’s most recognised and collectable whiskies.

The 1967 Colheita Tawny Port was bottled in 2012 with a long cork. I've seen this release before, but some time in bottle has certainly helped settle it down. It doesn't have a lot of intensity or concentration given its age, but its gentle demeanor, harmony and complexity make it very appealing. Relatively fresh, understated and lingering on the finish, this is easy to love, even if it is not quite a blockbuster. It's typically priced for a tawny this old—the only listing in the USA is at $260.

Cultivated and crafted by Pocas, an esteemed family-run winery established in 1918, this fine port represents their rich tradition and mastery of port winemaking. A ‘colheita’ port is a tawny port from a single vintage year, and this notable 1997 edition belies its age in a display of unrivalled excellence.

With 22 years of maturation in wooden barrels, the Pocas Colheita Port 1997 proffers layers of rich, complex flavours - toasted nuts, dried fruits, and delicate hints of spice balanced by an elegant, lingering finish. Lauded by connoisseurs worldwide, its beautiful amber hue is indicative of its quality and depth. Whether enjoyed as a meditative sipper or paired with indulgent desserts, the Pocas Colheita Port 1997 is an opulent journey through the distinguished history and artistry of Pocas.
