Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89-91)
The 2018 Croix-Mouton is a dark, pliant Bordeaux Supérieur. Black cherry, licorice, spice and crème de cassis give this sumptuous, racy wine striking texture and depth. The purity of the fruit and the wine's freshness are notable.Inc. VAT£220.56 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (89-91)
I expressed reservations towards Pierre Lurton's 2019 Marjosse in my en primeur report earlier this year and as a result, a second sample was shipped to me. This was so much better. The aromatics are far more controlled and focused with the same black cherries and boysenberry without the shroud of alcohol. The palate is opulent and generous, but much more detailed compared to the first sample and demonstrating much more purity on the finish. This is much more in line with my expectations and I am happy to upgrade my score.Inc. VAT£214.18 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (86-88)
The 2021 La Cour d'Argent, cropped at a measly 11hL/ha, has a light, airy nose of blackberry and briar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rigid tannins, but they should soften with barrel maturation. Expect this to drink well for 3–5 years.Inc. VAT£193.61 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89-91)
The 2020 La Cour d'Argent is a terrific Bordeaux Superieur. Black cherry, chocolate, dried herbs and leather lend striking energy to this flavorful Merlot-based red. Incisive tannins need time to soften, but there is enough sheer density to make me think that all the 2020 requires is patience. This is an impressive effort from Denis Barraud. Tasted two times.Inc. VAT£192.41 -
James Suckling (92-93)
A bright, vivid white with pineapple and sliced peaches. Medium-to full-bodied with lots of fruit and intensity.Inc. VAT£193.44 -

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)
The 2019 Cour d'Argent is just as impressive from bottle as it was en primeur. Succulent dark cherry, mocha, licorice and spice are all kicked up in this racy, supple Bordeaux Supérieur. Pretty floral accents lift the finish. The 2019 is beautifully done. Tasted two times.Inc. VAT£204.41 -
(3x150cl) 2020James Suckling (92-93)
A dense, fruity white with sliced lemon, apple and some dried pineapple. It’s full and flavorful. Quite layered. Pretty fruit and firmness, giving it form. Mostly semillon with some sauvignon blanc. Drink now.Inc. VAT£88.84 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)
The 2019 La Prade is a gorgeous, inviting wine. Succulent dark cherry, menthol, licorice, chocolate, spice and mocha flesh out in this racy, beautifully layered Côtes de Bordeaux from Nicolas Thienpont. The 2019 has come together so well. Tasted three times.Inc. VAT£219.10 -
Wine Advocate (89-91)

James Suckling (89-90)
A fresh and fruity red with dark berries and hints of flowers. Medium body, crisp acidity and a clean finish.Inc. VAT£226.01 -
James Suckling (92-93)
A beautiful Puygueraud with blackberries, black olives and hints of salt. Medium to full body and firm tannins at the end. Shows tension and beauty.Inc. VAT£197.95 -
James Suckling (92-93)
Really spicy and salty with ripe blue fruit and blackberries. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a long, flavorful finish.Inc. VAT£223.90 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (90)
The 2020 Puygueraud has a very satisfying and harmonious nose: blackberry, briary, freshly rolled tobacco and light truffle scents, nicely focused and composed. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, as I found in barrel. Quite Left Bank in style with graphite notes towards the finish with a briny aftertaste. Excellent.Inc. VAT£202.01 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89)
The 2017 La Prade is rich and powerful, just as it was from barrel. A rush of blackberry jam, gravel, spice, leather and smoke gives the 2017 its somber, virile personality. Potent in both its fruit and tannic structure, the 2017 could use a year or two in bottle to come together, but I imagine it will always remain a bit rustic. There is no shortage of intensity, that much is clear. Yields are down 50% - 7 hectares in production, 4.5 were not frosted, but this is rustic. Tasted three times.Inc. VAT£217.61 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)
The 2019 La Prade is a gorgeous, inviting wine. Succulent dark cherry, menthol, licorice, chocolate, spice and mocha flesh out in this racy, beautifully layered Côtes de Bordeaux from Nicolas Thienpont. The 2019 has come together so well. Tasted three times.Inc. VAT£217.90 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 2020 Peyrabon has an attractive nose with wild strawberry and raspberry scents. Quite concentrated, it retains delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well-integrated oak, harmonious with a lovely dash of cracked black pepper mixed with sage on the finish. Very fine.Inc. VAT£188.20 -
James Suckling (93-94)
This is really rich and powerful. Full-bodied, round and chewy. Very long and dense. It’s really something. Better than the 2015. Best ever?Inc. VAT£197.95 -
Wine Advocate (89-91)

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89)
The 2014 Les Grands Chênes is plump, juicy and accessible, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. In 2014, Les Grands Chênes is on the more delicate side of things, but it is nevertheless very nicely done. Hints of licorice and lavender add nuance to the dark-toned flavors. The 2014 is delicious now, but it will develop more complexity over time. Tasted two times.Inc. VAT£202.01 -
James Suckling (92-93)
A very pretty and tight 2017 with dark-berry, blueberry and dark-chocolate character. Medium body, solid tannins and a fresh finish.Inc. VAT£211.61 -
James Suckling (93-94)
Lovely red with currant and berry aromas and flavors and just a hint of walnut. Full-bodied yet bright and vivid. Delicious fruit and firmness. Shows depth and tension. One of best ever.Inc. VAT£220.01 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89-91)
The 2020 Puygueraud Blanc is full of lemon peel, almond, dried flowers, apricot and chamomile. Light and gracious, with pretty tropical overtones, it is impeccably rendered and all the elements are nicely balanced.Inc. VAT£101.29 -
Decanter World Wine Awards 2023 (97)
Our Best in Show journey across Northern Spain continues with a 2020 Bierzo, grown just across the provincial border from Galicia into Castilla y Léon. It’s another zone of steep slopes and old vines – the variety in this case being Mencia (known as Jaen in Portugal’s Dão region). This wine is deep black-red in colour and vivacious and urgent in aroma: wild plums mingled with the woodland scents of leaf, copse and forest floor. The palate is fruit-packed and vibrant, vigorous with an energy derived both from ripe acidity and fresh though smooth tannins; look out, too, for a stony, bitter-edged finish perhaps derived from the region’s slate soils. Wonderful drinking now in the flush of youth, but fruit of this quality will hold well for a few years yet.Inc. VAT£108.35 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)
The 2020 Les Grands Chênes is terrific, just as it was en primeur. Blackberry jam, gravel, incense, tobacco, scorched earth and espresso saturate the palate with remarkable depth. This deep, flavorful Médoc is a tremendous effort from Bernard Magrez and his team. My only complaint is the absurdly heavy bottle, which is completely out of touch with today's world.Inc. VAT£210.41 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (87-89)
The 2021 Croix-Mouton offers good depth to match its savory personality. Tobacco, cedar, menthol, licorice and dried herbs are front and center. There is some edginess in the tannin that hopefully will soften with élevage.Inc. VAT£124.40 -
(12x75cl) 2020Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 2020 Rahoul Blanc has an attractive nose of Golden Delicious, lime cordial and light nectarine scents. This has vigor and focus. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity. Great tension here, not amazingly complex but I appreciate the manner in which this builds towards the citrus, almost yuzu like finish. Very fine.Inc. VAT£221.38 -
Wine Advocate (91-93)
The 2020 Carlmagnus has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and vivacious scents of redcurrant jelly, ripe black plums and boysenberries, plus hints of iron ore, black truffles, lavender and cracked black pepper. The medium to full-bodied palate fills the mouth with intense red and black fruit layers, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and earthy.Inc. VAT£142.40 -
(6x75cl) 2023Jeb Dunnuck (88-90)
Deep ruby/plum-hued, the 2023 Château Beaumont offers up a beautiful nose of red and black currants, leafy herbs, spice, and a hint of flowers. It's balanced, medium-bodied, has some classy, chocolaty oak, and ripe tannins. A rock solid Haut-Médoc, it has outstanding potential, if not a tad more.Inc. VAT£113.60 -
James Suckling (92-93)
A firm, chewy red with blackberry and light coffee character. Medium to full body. Solid structure.Inc. VAT£237.84
