Rose petal, violet, ripe dark cherry, and cassis on the nose of Clair's 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Du Fonteny lead to a sumptuous, glycerin-rich, almost creamy palate, with bitter-sweet black fruit concentration, perfumed floral inhalation, licorice, and black tea. The tannins here are fine-grained and tightly-stitched to the abundant fruit. This long-finishing beauty represents a fine tribute to the team here as well as to these superbly-situated vines. Bright palish red. Distinctly red aromas of cherry and rose petal. Sappy and perfumed, conveying lovely inner-mouth floral lift and noteworthy finesse. Nicely suave, fine-grained wine with smooth tannins and very good length. These vines are planted on soil rich in white marl, like Clair's Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers and Bonne-Mares, and routinely has the highest pH in the cellar (3. 7 in 2014). But this 2014 does not lack for energy.Inc. VAT£1,409.38 -

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny 1er Cru, which contains 40% whole bunch fruit, has a very detailed bouquet of crushed-stone-infused, minerally fruit; hints of incense and lavender emerge with time in the glass. Good medium red. Musky, evolved bouquet of chocolate, spices and porcini. Supple, spicy and sweet but fully evolved, with the mushroom and chocolate qualities carrying through on the palate. In a fairly simple, slightly pinched style, and past its fruit stage. Bruno Clair described 2001 as a tough year for us, with a difficult flowering and a bad July. We didn't have problems with cleanliness of the fruit but there was a wide range of ripeness within the same bunches ever since the flowering. Energy and grace meld together in Clair's 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers. Floral and lifted on the outset, the 2012 shows remarkable energy through the mid-palate and finish, with gorgeous density and plenty of punch. Medium red. Sexy aromas of strawberry and earthy underbrush. Juicy and alive in the mouth, with its wild red berry flavors complicated by herbs and pepper. The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a gleaming bouquet with transparent red cherry and white-tipped strawberries that contain such brightness and vivacity. There's wonderful mineralité both aromatically and on the palate, where one finds filigree tannins. Irresistibly pure and elegant. Arthur Clair told me that when he made this wine at the beginning of his career, his father, Bruno, quipped that he had made a Rosé, due to its pallid hue. Well, just goes to show!Inc. VAT£1,245.00

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)
5 Star Wine. Glowing mid purple. A very gorgeous bouquet, brilliant purity, has been like this all the way through. Not looking for descriptive words here, this is immaculate and has retained delicacy. Very long, very fine with some rose petals at the finish. Delicacy with tensile strength. No sign of a second-class vintage here!In Bond£341.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-97)
Glowing purple. The bouquet is absolutely regal. What else to say? The palate offers a fantastic complexity varying from the sweetness of perfect ripeness through to a more savoury character from the terroir. The length of flavour transcends anything else. Gracefulness personified. Drink from 2032-2040.In Bond£1,705.00 -

Mid crimson. Super sensual straight away on the nose. Immediate natural class here, though not the most concentrated Clos St-Jacques. Once again, they seem to have hit the cusp of red and black. A fine long graceful finish. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.In Bond£1,587.50 -
Vinous (94+)
Energy and grace meld together in Clair's 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers. Floral and lifted on the outset, the 2012 shows remarkable energy through the mid-palate and finish, with gorgeous density and plenty of punch. In short, the 2012 has it all; gorgeous aromatics and enough density to develop for a good 25+ years. In Bond£154.00 -
Vinous (91)
Medium red. Sexy aromas of strawberry and earthy underbrush. Juicy and alive in the mouth, with its wild red berry flavors complicated by herbs and pepper. Conveys good energy for its relatively high pH, as well as noteworthy depth and breadth. Round but not at all flat, this Cazetiers finishes with ripe tannins and good thrust. In Bond£1,488.00 -
(6x75cl) 2015Vinous - Neal Martin (94)
The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a gleaming bouquet with transparent red cherry and white-tipped strawberries that contain such brightness and vivacity. There's wonderful mineralité both aromatically and on the palate, where one finds filigree tannins. Irresistibly pure and elegant. Arthur Clair told me that when he made this wine at the beginning of his career, his father, Bruno, quipped that he had made a Rosé, due to its pallid hue. Well, just goes to show!In Bond£1,019.59
