Vinous (92-94)Deep, bright red. Subtle, pure nose offers black raspberry, black cherry, mint, menthol and a hint of citrus skin. Wonderfully silky and sweet but the black fruit flavors come off more savory than sugary owing to the wine's strong limestone character. Finishes sappy, uncompromisingly dry and very long, with firm tannins and lovely mineral and floral lift. |

Vinous (94)The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has an opulent and high-toned bouquet, quite Bonnes-Mares in style, with copious red and blue fruit laced with wilted violet petals. The oak comes across a little stronger here although it is simpatico with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannin, ripe and vivacious, almost confit-like. There are layers of blue fruit towards the finish that evolves a slightly chalky texture, but there is very good persistency here. Superb. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Burghound (93-96)(from a .56 ha parcel). A wonderfully spicy and exuberantly fresh nose offers up notes of dark berries, lavender, rose petal, jasmine tea and a whiff of sandalwood. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense flavors are incredibly fine and when allied with good richness and minerality, it makes for an almost irresistible texture on the balanced finish that flashes both huge length and focused power. This is a marvelously classy Amoureuses that should amply repay extended keeping. In a word, brilliant. (93-96)/2036+ |

Vinous - Neal Martin (97)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru shows the positive effect that winemaker Jean Lupatelli has had at this address, with this bottle far exceeding my predictions from barrel. It has a wonderful bouquet—ethereal red fruit laced with crushed stone and undergrowth, precise and quite compelling. The oak is seamlessly integrated, as are the stems. The palate is very well balanced with pliant tannins that frame the backward mainly black fruit laced with blueberry. Real mineralité, real tension and bite. This lingers so long in the mouth that you could probably read War & Peace in Russian before its residual taste disappears. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (88)The 1979 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru does not come from a particularly noble period for the domaine. It has a briny nose that is missing some complexity and the pedigree one expects from this Grand Cru. That said, I find the palate more detailed than expected, with attractive black truffle scents interlacing the black fruit. It does not kick on toward the finish, but it will just about do. Drink soon. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (95+)Saturated ruby-red, the darkest of these '99s. Knockout nose of black raspberry, violet, minerals and spices; complex and vibrant. Large-scaled but fine, with lovely verve and lift. A wine with great energy and spine, but also silkier than the other '99s at this address. Tannins are ripe and quite fine. Offers a real whiplash of a finish, with subtle notes of berries and gunflint saturating the palate. |

Burghound (94)An extravagantly spicy and notably ripe yet very fresh nose offers up a very pretty mix of both red and black currant aromas that are beginning to display the initial hints of secondary development while being trimmed in discreet hints of wood and menthol. The beautifully elegant and gorgeously textured flavors exude a lovely minerality before culminating in a rich, round and utterly delicious finish that delivers excellent persistence. This is not especially big or dense as de Vogüé Musigny goes but is tautly muscular and defined. For my taste this has arrived at the very front end of its peak drinkability though I underscore that it should age gracefully for many years to come. Consistent notes. |

Burghound (96)This is also very cool and even more reserved at present, revealing only reluctant glimpses of very ripe and ultra spicy red and black berry fruit notes that are very pinot in character. The rich, full and powerful flavors are sweet, supple and utterly classy and the intensity this wine displays is seriously impressive and the superbly long and strikingly precise finish is crystalline in its purity and exactness. There is a rigorous element here that suggests this will require the better part of 15 years to be at its best but when it gets there, this is going to be a thrill ride. Readers know that I am not given to undue hyperbole but I love this style of wine as it's at once pure, understated, graceful and utterly composed. |

Vinous (98+)Bright, dark, saturated red-ruby. Pungent, noble aromas and flavors of raspberry, flowers, white pepper and powdered stone. Enters the palate with a wonderful lightness, then mounts impressively toward the back and saturates the entire mouth with fruits, spices, minerals and earth. As flamboyantly sweet as this wine is today, it's most remarkable for its power, definition, energy and cut. The tannins are still a bit youthfully spiky but this extremely backward wine finishes with superb thrust, grip and persistence. It's hard to imagine that this wine won't gain in texture and complexity over the next 20 to 30 years of aging in a cold cellar. |
