One of Burgundy's great under the radar wines Jayer's Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes de Nuits is once again terrific in 2013. Plum, red cherry, menthol, spice and violets meld together in a juicy, pliant Burgundy that over delivers. Beautifully layered in the glass, the 2013 will drink well upon release and for another decade or so beyond that.

Bursting from the glass, the 2017 Syrah has a mineral essence with aromas of summer sausage, black raspberry, blackberry and dark plum with savory aromas of black pepper spices, potpourri, touches of cocoa powder and freshly roasted coffee bean. The wine has a focus and precision that presides with the top bottlings from around the world. Aromas of newly tilled earth explode from the glass with floral notions of lilac and rose nuances that waft with spicy tones. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is seamless, bounding forth with complexity and a velvety richness that is exponentially compounded by the power the resides at its core. Devastatingly gorgeous, it takes my breath away, as the wine ends with a tightly wound, complex expression that continues to evolve over the elongated finish. With only 1,800 bottles made, good luck finding some, for if you do, you will undoubtedly be the envy of your wine treasure-hunting friends.

Stunning aromas of blackberries, dark chocolate, hazelnut and black olive skin. Full- bodied, with ultra-fine tannins that feel fine silky on my palate. Long finish of coffee bean, chocolate and dark fruits. Best Hosanna ever. Try in 2020.

Medium to deep garnet in color, the 2010 Hosanna storms out with earthy notes of crushed rocks, tar, and truffles, leading to a core of black cherry compote and plum preserves with hints of star anise and tobacco leaf. The medium-bodied palate delivers loads of savory and mineral layers and ripe, rounded tannins, finishing with great length and precision.

The 2016 Hosanna has a classy bouquet of delineated black fruit laced with cedar, tobacco and ferrous notes. The medium-bodied palate features supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and lovely spiciness toward the finish. There is impressive cohesion here and wonderful length, completing a seriously impressive Hosanna that appears to be improving in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

A final blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Hosanna is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose that simply sings of violets, chocolate-covered cherries and exotic spices with a core of crème de cassis, fragrant earth and blueberry pie plus a waft of wild thyme. The palate is medium to full-bodied, velvety, rich and seductive with tons of black and blue fruit layers, finishing with those exotic spices coming through.

Gorgeous blackcurrants, plum, chocolate, scorched earth, tobacco leaf, and graphite are just some of the nuances here, and this beauty is full-bodied, has a wonderfully textured, opulent mouthfeel, silky tannins, and one heavenly finish. It's up with the crème de la crème of the vintage, and that includes both banks. This straight-up stunning Pomerol will be drinkable with just 4-5 years of bottle age yet cruise for 30-40 years!

Another beautiful Pomerol, the 2019 Château Hosanna comes from a small 11-acre vineyard composed of a mix of gravel and clay soils. Its deep ruby/plum color is followed by a terrific perfume of spiced red and black cherries, blueberries, leafy tobacco, damp earth, and chocolate. It gains richness and depth with time in the glass and is medium to full-bodied, has a plush, seamless texture, gorgeous tannins, and no hard edges. It epitomizes the elegance paired with opulence that only Pomerol seems capable of producing. This beauty is already impossible to resist (it needs a decant) yet will evolve for 30 years or more.
