It offers an impressive array of aromas: raspberry preserve, wild strawberry, cedar and light tobacco scents, probably more intense than I would anticipate after 20 years. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh, quite tensile opening. There is a little more sharpness here compared to the 1989 Les Fort de Latour, and slightly higher acidity (at a surprising pH of 3.73). The compact but lively finish reveals hints of charcoal and tobacco. This is aging very gracefully – quite punchy compared to the 1989 yet thoroughly enjoyable. |

Wine Advocate (97)2010 was a very dry vintage of exceptional quality, producing incredibly structured and complex wines that are a little formidable when young but should age incredibly. Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose of the 2010 Les Forts de Latour is broody with subtle notes of licorice, tar, crushed black berries and plums with hints of spice cake and hoisin. Full-bodied, firm and grainy with an impenetrable core of muscular fruit, it finishes with fantastic persistence. The Wine Independent (94)Les Forts in the 2022 vintage is a blend of 58.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37.9% Merlot and 3.4% Petit Verdot. This feels more classically Pauillac on the nose than the Pauillac de Château Latour, the dark and toasted fruits here intermingling with notes of cedar and sandalwood, along with perfumed white chalk and griottes. Full, open, broad and confident at the start it has substance but in a sinewy rather than muscular style, with fresh acids and a very finely knit core of tannins which start to envelop the wine through the midpalate. Lots of energy and tannic grip here;this one says it will need a long time to come around, although I am sure it will be released in just a few years. A great Les Forts which will serve fans of Latour with less deep pockets well. The alcohol is 14.47%. |
