Burghound (96)A brooding nose of both red and dark currant is laced with sauvage, port, cassis and earth nuances. The delicious, intense and sleekly muscular big-bodied flavors possess excellent size and weight while displaying plenty of minerality on the overtly austere, compact and unapologetically built-to-age finale. This is an atypical Chambertin in the category of "buy and forget you own it for at least 10 years". I would note that this bottle showed dramatically better than the one in my original review, which is obviously odd but nonetheless, this one was knock-out good. |

Vinous (96)Dark and brooding, the 2011 Chambertin Clos de Bèze is fabulous today. Stylistically, the Bèze is quite a bit richer than the Chambertin, although it lacks just a touch of that wine's finesse. That is a pretty small complaint for a wine that delivers so much pure intensity. Layers of dark blue/purplish fruit fill out the wine's frame effortlessly, followed by violet, spice, smoke and licorice overtones. In 2011, the Bèze is exotic, resonant and compelling to the core. |

Vinous (93-96)The 2013 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is incredibly dense at this stage. Powerful yet implosive, the 2013 is a ball of tightly wound energy. Dark cherry jam, cloves, mint and hard candy are barely developed in an embryonic Bèze that appears to have a very bright future ahead of it. The aromatics continue to soar as the wine sits in the glass, hinting at what is to come. Readers will have to be patient with this decidedly authoritative, incisive Bèze. |

Wine Advocate (97)Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Damoy's 2014 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was one of the highlights of the entire tasting. It has a showstopper of a nose with brilliantly defined black plum, cranberry, wild strawberry, sous bois and minerals. You just have to stop and admire the clarity of the aromatics here. The palate is extremely well balanced with a fine bead of acidity interwoven through the black cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruit. There is the structure and masculinity of a Clos de Bèze, and yet it is certainly not unapproachable at this premature stage. Fabulous. You can feel the mouth still tingling long after the wine has departed. Quite brilliant. Tasted September 2017. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)Two cuvees, old vines north and young south, plus vice versa. Less concentrated colour of the two, savoury, pretty red fruit which dances across the palate, finishing with good acidity, very stylish. Lovely delicacy with all the necessary tension. There is a notable style difference between the two versions of Clos de Bèze. Very elegant aftertaste. Some strawberries in the mix. |
