Vinous (94)
Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Combe d'Orveau Ultra. Brooding, highly complex aromas of black cherry, blackberry, tea leaf, game bird and leather. Dense and very intense, with terrific medicinal reserve to the opulent flavors of dark cherry, dark berries and menthol. Can't match the Combe d'Orveau for sheer perfume but this gripping wine shows outstanding finesse of texture for Nuits-Saint-Georges. Very long and very youthful on the back end.Inc. VAT£4,618.18 -
Vinous (93)
Bright full red. Wonderfully vibrant scents of raspberry, cherry, peppery spices, flowers, licorice and bitter chocolate. Silky, saline and dense, conveying a restrained sweetness and distinct soil complexity to the flavors of dark raspberry and smoky minerals. The wine's richness and depth are perfectly cut by mineral-driven energy. This sharply delineated wine finishes with noble tannins and excellent length.Inc. VAT£1,876.28 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2019 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has a very intense bouquet that threatens to overwhelm the sense: black cherries, boysenberry, violet with hints of sage and orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that caress the sense, very Vosne-like in style with a satin-textured and very luxurious finish. This will be impossible to resist in its youth so don’t say I didn’t warn you.Inc. VAT£4,105.56 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a tightly wound bouquet, dark plum and raspberry fruit, a touch of blackberry, the oak nicely integrated although it is staying inside its shell for the time being. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red cherry and raspberry fruit, the tannins finer than I was anticipating, the acidity well judged as it segues into a backward but focused, quite structured finish. Christophe Perrot-Minot's Beaux Monts has very good potential. Tasted September 2016.Inc. VAT£1,367.89 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a very attractive, expressive bouquet of quite precocious macerated red cherries, kirsch, orange sorbet and hints of crème de cassis, a little showy but irresistible. The silky-smooth palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, more understated than the aromatics, and the finish is very cohesive and charming. Maybe it would benefit from more length, but it feels very natural and refined at the moment.Inc. VAT£1,808.29 -

The 2020 La Craie was also picked earlier, and the wine achieved lower alcohol (14%) than the 2019 through fermenting the destemmed grapes in their new crylon vats. It matured in used 225-liter barrels for 16 months, the same barrels they have always used from the beginning. It's a less austere expression of LaCraie, more open, aromatic and gentler but keeping the personality, the delicate tannins and the DNA from the place, the large bones with little meat. Great effort for the vintage. 912 bottles were filled in December 2021.Inc. VAT£213.86 -

The 2015 Iubileus wants to present Gualtallary through a Malbec, even though there is some Cabernet Franc co-fermented with it. It's expressive and floral, with something earthy, a mixture of red and black fruit and a gentler palate. This is from Gualtallary at 1,300 meters in altitude, from 11-year-old vines on alluvial soils where the boulders are covered with calcium carbonate. The Malbec fermented in rolling barrels and the Cabernet Franc in open-top barrels. It matured in used barriques for 16 months. It's nuanced and floral, harmonious and terribly balanced. It's powerful and concentrated but with acidity and freshness. 2015 shows the power of Malbec but only within the right context; if isolated, it would be really subtle, elegant and fragrant. This is simply superb. 1,020 bottles were filled unfiltered in September 2016.Inc. VAT£170.82 -
