The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon L'Esprit des Pavots is a blend taken from both Les Pavots in Knights Valley and Au Paradis in Oakville. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Pavots is one of the most elegant and classy wines I have tasted from Peter Michael's Knights Valley estate. Deep, layered and substantial, the 2021 holds considerable promise. In most vintages, the Pavots is more aromatically expressive, but today it is quite closed. Dark red plum, mocha, spice, new leather and licorice all build in this embryonic Cabernet Sauvignon. In this tasting, the 2021 needed considerable decanting to show its textural breadth. It’s a gorgeous wine in every way.Inc. VAT£1,286.12

Marvellously complex, yet meticulously balanced, the Peter Lauer Schonfels Fass 11 GG 2019 merits the high acclaim associated with its name. This Riesling is masterfully produced in the distinct terroir of the Schonfels vineyard in Ayler, Germany by the renowned Lauer estate. The Lauer family, grounded in tradition from as early as 1830, is known for crafting characteristically dry, potent Rieslings using spontaneous fermentation methods only.
This exceptional 2019 vintage, characterised by its robust structure and potent minerality, exhibits an exquisite variety of flavours and aromas. It presents delicate notes of vibrant citrus fruits that subtly complement an undercurrent of exquisite smoky minerality. Maturing harmoniously in large old oak Fuder barrels, the Peter Lauer Schonfels Fass 11 GG 2019 offers a wine that's not only unique but irresistibly delectable, perfectly articulating the quality standard of the Lauer lineage.

This has really transformed into a complex, bottle-matured riesling with lemon-rind, lemon-butter and toasty aromas. The palate is very smoothly arranged and the wine has taken on a glossy textural quality over the five years in bottle. The length and intensity here is so impressive. This is breathtakingly pure, yet complex and drinkable. Drink or hold. Screw cap.In Bond£121.23 -

2002 vines. Wigan is king of Eden Valley riesling and yet again one of the top releases of the year. Still a magnificent straw-green at just 5yo, it's at that magic moment where primary and secondary characters unite in equal measure. All the fresh lime and Granny Smith apple of youth, backed by rising buttery, spicy, roast almond maturity. Brilliant acid line charges an astonishing finish that lasts for 30 seconds. Yes, I timed it! For all it represents, this might just be the bargain of the year.In Bond£90.00 -
The Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 2008 is a riveting fusion of intense flavours and elegance, showcasing the enduring prowess of the Australian Barossa Valley vineyards. Produced by respected wine artisan, Peter Lehmann, this label hails from vineyards over 30 years old, embodying the rich heritage and quality of the region. The wine's creation method foregrounds traditional wine-making principles - handpicked, meticulously destemmed and crushed, followed by open fermentation and maturation in new French oak hogsheads. Deeply garnet in colour, it unfurls an opulent bouquet of dark chocolate, liquorice, and ripe blackberries, graduating into a long, velvety finish. The Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 2008 offers an outstanding exemplification of premium Barossa Shiraz, with its multi-layered complexities and remarkable ageing potential. Pouring an opaque red, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis is lush and refined with aromas of cassis, espresso, violets, and sweet tobacco. Full-bodied, this refined profile continues on the palate, with a ripe, velvety texture, fine tannins, and notes of black cherry liqueur and mocha, as well as floral oils that last long on the palate without feeling heavy. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis is a saturated purple hue and is classic and inviting with lush aromatics of menthol, cassis, dark stones, and warming spice. An exceptional vintage of this wine, it’s long and balanced, with all its components harmonious throughout. It has a plush, velvety texture, even acidity, and fantastic length. As it unfolds, it boasts layers of mocha, leather, and earth, it’s all put together fantastically, and while it’s unquestionably decadent, it’s not sappy or overbearing. It’s one of those wines that’s a pleasure to drink now and will also age with ease over the coming decades. Perfection. Drink: 2027-2057.In Bond£854.00 -

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon L'Esprit des Pavots is a blend taken from both Les Pavots in Knights Valley and Au Paradis in Oakville. Bright acids and lifted floral notes give this mid-weight Bordeaux blend energy and a real sense of precision. Red cherry fruit, mocha, spice, licorice and cedar add nuance throughout. Here, too, production is down sharply (1,200 cases versus 1,800, which is more typical), but the wine is just compelling. In Bond£134.00 -

(77% cabernet sauvignon, 13% cabernet franc, 8% merlot and 2% petit verdot) Glass-staining ruby. Powerful aromas of red- and blackcurrant, with deeper cherry compote, tobacco and candied licorice emerging with air. Very rich but surprisingly graceful, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors, velvety texture and a suave floral pastille quality. Tightens up on the finish, which repeats the redcurrant and licorice notes and simply refuses to let up. This wine's depth and linear character are something else. There is more cabernet sauvignon in this Pavots than in any previous bottling, according to Nick's brother Luc, who still consults here.Inc. VAT£2,298.00 -

The 2009 Les Pavots, a 3,440-case blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, comes from Knights Valley. It exhibits a distinctive truffle, chocolate, blackberry and cassis-scented bouquet, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and fabulous concentration, purity and density. This magnificent effort’s open-knit style was surprising as most Northern California 2009s made from Bordeaux varietals are somewhat austere and closed at present. This wine should drink well for another two decades or more.Inc. VAT£2,298.00 -

(6x75cl) 2021Vinous - Antonio Galloni (97)
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Pavots is one of the most elegant and classy wines I have tasted from Peter Michael's Knights Valley estate. Deep, layered and substantial, the 2021 holds considerable promise. In most vintages, the Pavots is more aromatically expressive, but today it is quite closed. Dark red plum, mocha, spice, new leather and licorice all build in this embryonic Cabernet Sauvignon. In this tasting, the 2021 needed considerable decanting to show its textural breadth. It’s a gorgeous wine in every way.In Bond£1,050.00
