It has a very distinctive bouquet of open scents of brambly red fruit, sage, oregano and light tobacco scents that are very well defined. The palate is beautifully balanced and silky-smooth in texture with perfectly pitched acidity. Its perfumed bouquet is much more floral than the Pofadder, with incense and pressed iris flower infusing the red berry fruit, and displays wonderful energy and precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a crisp, quite saline finish that lingers long in the mouth. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, perfectly balanced, and a touch of graphite. It’s quite saline on the finish with a pinch of white pepper. Full-bodied, opulent and powerful, with a big mid-palate and building tannin, it too will benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for two decades. The garrigue on the nose is a bit more subtle than normal this year, with the bulk of the aromatics being super ripe cherries and berries. Full-bodied and intense, with a helping of firm tannins that keep the jamminess in check, it finishes dusty and savory, with ample length. The 2020 Saint Georges (Côte Pavie) is fabulous. In fact, this is one of the finest vintages I can remember tasting. Inky dark fruit, gravel, spice, pomegranate and mocha all saturate the palate. The firm tannins typical of this wine are present, but the 2020 seems to have enough fruit density to provide at least a measure of balance.
