Vinous (86-88)
The 2019 Monthélie Clos Les Champs Fulliot 1er Cru comes from 0.9 hectares of vine. It was the second parcel to be picked because of its warm microclimate, yet I find more precision on the Les Duresses. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and touches of dark chocolate and tar. There is more elegance and terroir expression on the Les Duresses this year.Inc. VAT£345.12 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)
Urgent, exotic aromas of peaches in syrup, dried apricot and papaya. Dense and firm but very closed; distinctly exotic flavors similar to the aromas. Not currently showing the precision or energy of the Cabotte but then this is almost too young to be tasted. Still a touch of malic acidity remaining. Finishes with great sweetness of fruit and persistence.Inc. VAT£10,716.41 -
(6x75cl) 2007Wine Enthusiast (98)
From arguably the finest white wine vineyard in Burgundy, this is a powerful wine that shows great weight, but balances that with intense, elegant structure, style and freshness. The flavors are endless and complex, richness combining with the lively character of the vintage. Age for many years.Inc. VAT£4,490.30 -
(1x300cl) 2009Vinous (95+)
Very pale yellow. Aromas of mirabelle, apple, spices, menthol and white truffle, lifted by a whiff of lime blossom. Juicy and rich but extremely discreet today, with ripe apple and spice flavors coming across as fully ripe but classically dry. There's an almost exotic marzipan note on the back end but strong acidity is keeping the wine under wraps. This will need at least seven or eight years of cellaring to begin to deliver on its considerable potential.Inc. VAT£2,888.23 -
(3x150cl) 2014Vinous (93+)
Pale straw-yellow. Very reticent scents of peach, pear and spearmint are less forthcoming than those of the Chevalier-Montrachet bottlings. Fat, saline and slightly disjointed in the early going; in a very rich but adamantly dry style. Shows full ripeness supported by penetrating acidity but this infant is not yet expressive or particularly complex. Strong minerality and building acidity on the tactile back end will require time to harmonize with the wine's fruit.Inc. VAT£4,541.52 -
(3x75cl) 2017Vinous (98)
The 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru has a slight reduction on the nose, although it is nothing to get too worried about. I think it has exceptional mineralité covered up by its youth. The medium-bodied palate is taut, fresh and quite saline, with a fine bead of acidity and some vanilla-y oak toward the very saline finish, though that will be eaten with bottle age. There is outstanding precision on the aftertaste, and that seems to be accentuated with aeration. I gave this a tepid reaction from barrel, but here in bottle, it received my highest score out of over two hundred 2017s. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.Inc. VAT£2,651.16 -

(3x75cl) 2019Decanter (97)
Bouchard’s holding here is superb: 0.90ha on the edge of the Puligny side at midslope between Ramonet and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. In 2019, Bouchard emphasised the richness by picking this parcel last. Ripe apples, white flowers and even a touch of honey make their appearance on the nose, while the texture on the palate is unctuous and deep without being heavy. There is still enough freshness to keep this lively through the intensely long finish.Inc. VAT£2,470.38 -

Hailing from the Puligny side on the upper slopes between DRC and Ramonet, this sublime wine has incredible freshness and a dazzling aromatic profile. Cinnamon and clove blend with pear core, chamomile, sweet orchard fruit and crushed rocks. Though thoroughly concentrated with good extract, the wine seems to float on the palate thanks to the gracious lift of the seamless, mouth-watering acidity. Vague chalkiness adds compelling texture to the long finish. 2025-40Inc. VAT£2,073.84 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (97)
The 2021 Montrachet Grand Cru has an elegant bouquet that opens in the glass with crushed stone and light oily/resinous scents, nuanced yet focused with glimpses of tropical fruit though it never impedes. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh, precise and mineral-driven. There is an understated element in this "Monty" that is very appealing and it feels reassuringly persistent on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£2,493.96 -

(3x75cl) 2023Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)
Medium deep lemon. The nose only barely suggests what is to come. The Montrachet shows massive opulence up front with golden fruit and peaches, then a wall of tension, then suddenly it seems to stop, only to start again and continue on the second half of its journey. A little hard to read in its extreme youth, but I suspect that this will make a very fine Montrachet. Amazing length, all registers of fruit. Drink from 2033-2045. Tasted Oct 2024.Expected Price Range£2,316 - £2,831 -

Wine Advocate (91-93)
The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières is lovely, bursting with aromas of sweet berries, licorice and violets, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and succulent palate built around sweet, powdery tannins.Expected Price Range£219 - £268 -
James Suckling (95)
This a firm and pretty red with a solid tannin backbone to the medium body. Ripe fruit with some walnut, tobacco, and floral undertones. It’s long and flavorful. Balanced and firm. Classic style. Drink in 2025.Inc. VAT£470.75 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)
Absolutely black centre to this with a massively concentrated bouquet, thus far hiding the detail. Inky depths. I would like to see this again after racking. The wine is not destabilised on the palate and the concentration is certainly exceptional, fresher at the finish. There is certainly an awful lot of wine here: buy it if you want a wine for 25 years time! Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£353.89 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-93)
A small yield in 2022, making it hard to judge the picking date. A rich deep purple in the centre. The oak adds a sheen to the nose. There is vigour to this albeit with a slightly riper fruit profile, but the structure is balanced very well by a fresher limestone feel. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. VAT£550.32 -

(6x75cl) 2000Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88-91)
Red-ruby. Highly aromatic nose combines minerals, licorice, chocolate mint, spiced bread and tobacco. Fresh and intensely flavored but very tight; conveys an impression of finesse and strong acidity. Very ripe and chocolatey but shy today. Finishes long and subtle, with substantial fine tannins. Serious juice.Inc. VAT£2,325.89 -

(aged almost entirely in one-year-old barrels, mostly from Chassin): Bright red-ruby. Dark raspberry, dark chocolate, medicinal clove, licorice and spices on the nose, complicated by cinnamon and blond tobacco nuances. Plush, round and seamless, showing lovely subtle spicy depth and a hint of chocolate to the very pure, inviting flavors of raspberry, mocha and minerals. Silky and aromatic in the mouth in spite of its obvious oakiness, and smooth on the finish. There's a good bit of Pinot Beurot here; Bouchard used to eliminate it from this wine but Weber is now including it for greater complexity.Inc. VAT£120.12 -
