(6x75cl) 2020Collemassari Montecucco Rosso Riserva 2020 is a compelling offering from the esteemed Castello Collemassari winery in the Tuscan region of Italy. This fine red wine is expertly crafted from a harmonious blend of Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, all grown on the winery's sunlit slopes at an altitude of 320 metres. The winemaking process adheres to organic principles, with ageing in French oak barriques and tonneaux for a period of 18 months, followed by refinement in the bottle. As such, Collemassari Montecucco Rosso Riserva 2020 embodies an exquisite fusion of fruitiness and oak influence, embodying notes of cherries, spices and subtle hints of tobacco. Its smooth tannins and persistently elegant finish continue to enthral even the most discerning of palates. An ideal accompaniment to hearty meat dishes and mature cheeses, this Tuscan treasure encapsulates the passion and expertise of its creators, thereby affirming its status as a must-have addition to any wine lover's collection.

I love the purity of fruit to this delightful sangiovese with fresh hibiscus tea, rose petals and orange rind. Medium body, fine but serious tannins and a spicy, medium-chewy finish. Delicate and savory, but warm and hearty at the same time. As sangiovese should be. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.Inc. VAT£176.38 -

Best In Show In contrast to our Best in Show Vintage Champagne, this non-vintage Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is clearly a youthful wine – but one with impressive potential. Pale and fine-beaded, its taut, mouth-watering scents of ivy leaf, plant sap, green apple and green grape contrive to suggest both exceptional vineyard origins but also a relatively low dosage. On the palate, the wine is pure, deep, vinous and driving, with fine-bladed intensity. Pristine, structural acidity carries it towards a high-focus, faintly saline finish, once again suggesting soil, stone and fruit rather than yeast and a concluding liqueur. Yes, it’s young, but you could age this pure, refined Blanc de Blancs for up to a decade (if you have cool cellaring conditions) to great benefit.Inc. VAT£645.04 -
The curtain raiser vintage of Collines de L'If has a deep ruby colour. The first nose reveals dense red fruits with hints of spice and fresh blonde leaf tobacco both enhanced by chalky notes. The mouth is tender, silky with smooth tannins. The wine boasts a balanced finish that lasts, with again notes if fresh red fruits.Inc. VAT£218.15 -
Made with the same care and expertise as its big brother, Collines de L'If is fine and fresh with notes of autumn fruits, liquorice and spices. It conveys an accessibility, good richness and an attractive balance between fruit and soil with a touch of mint. The finish is long with the red fruit character that embodies Saint-Emilion wines.Inc. VAT£203.98 -

Vivid ruby. Smoky blackberry, cherry-cola, violet pastille, licorice and mineral aromas are complemented by a spicy cracked pepper nuance. Ripe, palate-coating black and blue fruit, olive paste and spicecake flavors show sharp focus, and a sweet hint of cola builds in the glass. Supple and broad on the long, spicy finish, which is framed by smooth, slowly building tannins.Inc. VAT£419.95 -

All destemmed, aged for 18 months in demi-muids. Remarkable aromatic finesse already, boding well for the future; it majors on rich, ripe fruit rather than oak. Very full and rounded, but full of life and energy, this is buzzing with vitality. It has fresh, lip-smacking acidity and tannin, and a very long finish. A fantastic balance between freshness, concentration and pure, regal Hermitage fruit. Whatever style of Hermitage you like, this shouldn’t disappoint - it has depth and power as well as finesse. Very impressive, complete wine.Inc. VAT£949.44 -

Inky ruby color. Powerful, mineral-accented black and blue fruit liqueur, incense, smoky bacon and potpourri aromas take on exotic spice and licorice nuances with air. Sappy, focused and deeply concentrated yet surprisingly lively as well, offering alluringly sweet blueberry, cassis, cherry-vanilla and candied violet flavors that are given back-end cut by building mineral and black pepper flourishes. The mineral and floral notes drive an extremely long, well-delineated finish, where dusty tannins provide shape and final grip.Inc. VAT£395.48 -

Opaque violet color. A highly fragrant bouquet evokes fresh black and blue fruits, exotic spices, olive, pipe tobacco and candied flowers; a smoky mineral note builds as the wine opens up. Juicy and sharply focused on the mineral-inflected palate, offering intense, mineral-accented boysenberry, bitter cherry, licorice and violet pastille flavors with a touch of vanilla. The floral note comes back strong on the impressively long finish, which features youthfully grippy tannins and lingering spiciness. I also had the chance to try the 2010 version of this wine, and it was a knockout, with deep dark fruit character and suave floral and exotic spice accents. There's still plenty of structure present, so a little time in a decanter, or just plain old patience, is strongly advised.Inc. VAT£645.84 -

The 2021 El Reventón is the one wine from the village of Cebreros on slate soils, and it has an herbal and peppery twist similar to the notes I found in the Las Iruelas from this very cold year. This has some more meaty notes, more iron, but no heat or Mediterranean grapes. It's a narrower, more mineral expression of El Reventón, very balanced with an unnoticeable 15% alcohol, which meant full development of aromas and flavors in the grapes that were infused into the wine. This has to be the most elegant and precise year of El Reventón to date. In this cold vintage, it's ethereal, a little wider but getting close to the style of Las Iruelas. It's a little less expressive on the nose than Iruelas, with a little more fruit. 2022 will be the last vintage for this wine, as they sold the vineyard to the Alejandro Vigil and Catena team from Mendoza, who vinified it for the first time in 2023. 1,759 bottles were filled in March 2023.Inc.
