Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-94)
Good medium red. More serious, tangy aromas of raspberry, minerals and smoke. Wonderful sweetness on the palate; really stuffed with fruit and yet less forthcoming today-perhaps more dominated by its structure- than the Clos Vougeot. Finishes long and firm, with a suggestion of medicinal cherry.Inc. VAT£3,418.80 -
(1x75cl) 2001Vinous (95)
Moderately saturated bright red. Aromas of strawberry, raspberry and menthol show a slightly decadent quality but also terrific lift. Marvelously silky and seamless, with its subtly sweet red fruit flavors complicated by spices, juniper berry and Cuban cigar tobacco and accented by a peppery topnote. At once spherical and firm, this soil-driven beauty has reached its plateau of peak maturity but should hold there for a good while. The acidity is nicely integrated and the mounting dusty tannins show a light touch. Anne Gros told me she'd prefer a rounder style but this wine was among the very best 2001s I tasted in Burgundy this fall.Inc. VAT£1,811.33 -
Vinous (94+)
(like the Clos Vougeot, this was aged in 90% new oak) Medium red. Deep, sappy aromas of cherry, menthol, flowers and tobacco. Penetrating, aristocratic and gripping, with great nervosite Seems much more primary in the mouth than on the nose, with cool mineral and purple fruit flavors. Firmly structured, young and very long. This also needs a good six or seven years.Inc. VAT£8,453.52 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92)
(-) Medium red. Complex nose melds sweet red fruits, minerals and cocoa. Silky and aromatic in the mouth, with expressive, highly nuanced flavors of red and darker berries, exotic spices, leather, game and flowers, plus an intriguing saline quality. This boasts early appeal owing to its sheer sweetness but also possesses a fairly solid tannic spine for aging.Inc. VAT£912.12 -
Vinous (94+)
Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Vougeot. Deeper aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, flinty smoky minerality and pepper, along with a whiff of gamey reduction. Bigger, broader and sweeter than the Clos Vougeot, and amazingly supple and plump for a grand cru from this vintage, without any loss of shape. The back end is like a booster rocket of fruits and flowers, which cover the wine's acidity and noble tannins today. I'd love to taste this next to the Clos Vougeot in ten years' time.Inc. VAT£1,161.60 -
(6x75cl) 2011Vinous (94)
Medium red. Cherry and sweet spices on the fairly restrained nose, lifted by a floral topnote. Broad, sweet and sexy on the palate, with lovely finesse to the flavors of berries, spices and flowers. Really explosive on the ripe, spicy, seamless aftertaste. A beauty but does this wine have a hidden dimension?Inc. VAT£5,065.92 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (94+)
Full medium red. Very subdued but pure aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and wild herbs. Wonderfully rich and dense yet somehow weightless; distinctly wilder than the Clos Vougeot, showing an almost liqueur-like ripeness but also strong acidity to its hard candy flavors. I don't find the Oriental spice character this wine typically demonstrates in the early going, but there's no denying this wine's density and powerful fruit. It will need substantial cellaring to achieve its adult harmony.Inc. VAT£861.72 -
Vinous (93+)
Bright medium red. Redder on the nose than the Clos Vougeot, offering high-pitched aromas of cherry, raspberry and menthol. Combines terrific inner-mouth lift with a refined texture, conveying an impression of tension to the flavors of red cherry, minerals and flowers. The tannins are suave and cool. This seamless wine really glistens on the middle palate and long aftertaste.Inc. VAT£3,325.94 -
Vinous (93+)
Bright medium red. Perfumed scents of black raspberry and espresso are complicated by soil-driven smoke and crushed-rock notes. The richest and most tactile of these young 2014s but also with great finesse to the flavors of red berries, rose petal, saline minerality and pepper. The wine's tannins are serious and deep but not hard. This true-to-its-terroir beauty really saturates the palate under a wave of flavor.Inc. VAT£997.32 -
(3x75cl) 2017Wine Advocate (92-94+)
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of Asian spices, plums, raspberries and rose petal, with only subtle hints of the savory nuances of soil and espresso to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with satiny tannins and a broad, open-knit profile. This is a precocious, dramatic Richebourg in the making, and while it will never rival the depth and concentration Gros achieved in 2016 and 2015, it will certainly turn heads in its youth.Inc. VAT£2,743.54 -
(3x75cl) 2018Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)
Gorgeous glowing purple with an amazing wealth of fruit including some brilliant floral notes. Classic old rose with some peonies too. Full ripe without going over the top. Some plum notes along with the more classical red fruits, swells across the palate. Finishes with a fine depth of fruit.Inc. VAT£4,134.02 -

Vinous (93-95)
The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru is very pure and focused, featuring strawberry, raspberry, orange peel and blood orange aromas; a hint of black truffle emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but fine tannins. Wonderfully focused, spicier and more savory than the 2018, leading into a long finish, this is a superb Richebourg, even if at the moment I would like to see more of its aristocratic origin.Inc. VAT£944.66 -
(1x75cl) 2020Tim Atkin MW (96)
Blackberries and black currants mesh with violets and sweet herbs on the nose. The palate turns a bit darker with fresh mushrooms and damp earth. There's even an exotic whiff of incense. There is terrific sap and energy here with lean, svelte tannins and racy acidity aplenty for longevity. This comes from 60- to 70-year-old vines in Les V roilles, positioned between DRC and Leroy. 2024-38Inc. VAT£2,809.49 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru has a beautifully-defined bouquet, dark berries with lots of undergrowth, light shaved black truffle aromas. The mineralité shines through here. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, crisp and quite linear for a Richebourg. Though not persistent as recent vintages, it maintains superb focus with a residual white pepper tinged aftertaste. Excellent.Inc. VAT£1,021.45 -

5 Star Wine. A brilliant purple, with a fascinating touch of spice to add to the depth of dark yet royal fruit. Just keeps getting more profound on the nose. Incredibly intense through the middle, excellent mineral acidity behind, and a length well above the others. Thank you for this perfection.Inc. VAT£2,595.49 -
(6x75cl) 2023Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)
A lovely bright deep ruby, purple in the middle. The 2023 Richebourg starts exuberantly then refines with a greater sense of detail. The fruit swarms across the palate but not in an obstreperous way, with a sensuality to the raspberry that is hard to imagine. There is tannin present, and enough acidity but the fruit covers them both and extends to a remarkable finish. Super sensual and really finely balanced at the same time. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.Inc. VAT£5,243.15 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux, from vines planted back in 1903, has a beautifully-defined bouquet that unfurls in the glass, black plum and cranberry, touches of sea spray coming through with time. The palate is well balanced with fresh red fruit on the entry, lightly spiced, quite cohesive with a velvety finish. Lovely.Inc. VAT£204.12 -

Deep magenta. Expressive red and dark berry aromas pick up floral and smoky mineral accents with air. Closes with mineral cut, a hint of fine-grained tannins and strong persistence.Inc. VAT£339.54 -
Vinous (93)
Lurid ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, Indian spices, incense and smoky minerals. In a rich yet distinctly elegant style, offering concentrated, alluringly sweet raspberry and cherry liqueur, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that show excellent clarity and back-end thrust. Suave and seamless in texture, but possesses impressive structure thanks to a core of juicy acidity. The long, floral-dominated finish is shaped by supple tannins and shows serious tenacity.Inc. The 2021 Beaune Les Boucherottes 1er Cru was completely de-stemmed as the vines naturally produce acidity. The malo had not finished on this cuvée but there appears to be fine concentration on the nose considering the vintage. The palate is sweet, slightly candied on the entry with blood orange and tangerine infusing the red fruit. Ripe and energetic on the simple yet effective finish. Fine.Inc. VAT£473.40 -
