Wine Advocate (97)
Notes of mint, sage and bay leaf accent bold aromas of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries on the nose of Hobbs's 2018 1905 Shiraz. Picked later than the Gregor but not dried prior to fermentation, it's a well-behaved 14.7% alcohol wine that would be at home on the table alongside a tomahawk ribeye, roast lamb or any long-cooked stew. Full-bodied and intense, it not only shows tremendous complexity—mixing red and dark berries with various herbal nuances and hints of licorice, coffee beans and seared meat—but also boasts a rich, velvety mouthfeel combined with notable drinkability. It's a terrific contrast in style with the Gregor, showing more elegance but not nearly as much power.Inc. VAT£727.51 -

The 2018 Gregor Shiraz was partially dried prior to crushing and fermentation, so it packs considerable concentration and power, weighing in at 15.8% alcohol on the label. It's a blockbuster in every sense of the word, from its huge aromas of mint, blueberries and plums to the mind-bending intensity on the full-bodied palate. Although not as raisined or alcoholic as Dal Forno's Amarone, there are similarities in size and structure, with waves of velvety, super ripe fruit and dark chocolate bolstered by softly dusty tannins and mouthwatering acidity on a finish that must be tasted to be believed. Wow!Inc. VAT£548.12 -

From vines in Corgoloin, the 2017 Côte de Nuits-Villages unfurls in the glass with a lovely bouquet of cherries, dark berries, rose petals, orange rind and cedar. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated for the vintage, with a fleshy core of fruit, finer-grained tannins than those found in the domaine's bottlings from the Hautes Côtes, and juicy balancing acids, concluding with an elegantly chalky finish. This is showing very well and is worth seeking out.Inc. VAT£619.61 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
This comes from the Echezeaux du Dessus, a plot purchased in the 1960s which must have been almost immediately replanted as the vines are now 50 years old. 30% whole bunch vinification and 70% of the cuvée is in new wood but we tasted from a one year old barrel. Equally dense purple in colour. Haunting qualities with real depth. Firm and forceful, some fine-grained tannins, covered with a wealth of rich red fruit including some strawberries.Inc. Gilles Jayer's 2013 Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes de Beaune is a jewel of a wine within its category. Crushed berries, flowers and chalky notes are all nicely delineated in a lifted, precise Burgundy endowed with lovely energy and fine balance. The Côtes de Beaune can at times be a bit rustic, but the 2013 looks to have an extra level of sophistication to it.Inc. VAT£457.00 -

Moderate reduction knocks down the fruit though there is good vibrancy and detail to the delicious flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the focused and lingering finish. Offering up aromas of cherries and cassis, deftly framed by a touch of new oak, the 2018 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune is medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, with a rich core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids. One of Burgundy's great under the radar wines Jayer's Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes de Nuits is once again terrific in 2013. A pretty and very fresh nose combines notes of both red and dark cherry with an airy array of floral nuances. Once again there is good intensity and vibrancy to the slightly bigger and richer flavors that possess a bit better depth and persistence on the mildly more structured finale. This is very good for its level and is worth considering provided you can allow it at least a few years of cellar time.Inc. VAT£434.98 -

The 2011 Nuits St. Georges Les Hauts Porrets is beautifully centered focused. Here it is the wine's density and power that stand out most. Remarkably vivid in the glass, the 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Hauts Porrets is super-impressive. Bright dark red. Brisk, tight nose hints at dark fruits and minerals. In a juicy but very dry style, and distinctly imploded today. This tannic, slightly hard-edged wine is tough going. A puzzling showing: my score gives it the benefit of some doubt.Inc. VAT£716.00 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)
Bright, dark ruby-red. Very pure, vibrant aromas of kirsch, blackberry, licorice and cocoa powder. Strongly mineral-driven on the palate but not aggressive, with concentrated dark fruit and saline flavors complemented but not overshadowed by the 100% oak. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and lovely floral persistence. Gilles Jayer told me that this climat on thin soil over rock belongs entirely to him and to Domaine Machard de Gramont and really merits premier cru classification. My notes and scores on this cuvée over the past 15 to 20 years suggest that he's right.Inc. VAT£788.00
