(3x75cl) 2015Wine Advocate (94-96)
The 2015 Musigny Grand Cru perhaps somewhat predictably has the most sophisticated bouquet amongst Prieur's red wines, with mulberry and blackberry notes infused with cold stone and subtle sous-bois aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin that feel quite bony at the moment, although it will mellow and gain more harmony. There is very fine focus on the finish with attractive salinity on the finish. Afford this a decade in the cellar if you can.Inc. VAT£2,542.30 -
Burghound (92-94)
A brooding and beautifully complex nose of spiced plum and a remarkably broad mix of dark berry fruit scents is trimmed in a background application of wood. The opulent, rich, round, velvety and wonderfully refined middle weight flavors display excellent mid-palate density and impressive volume on the superbly long finish where a touch of menthol appears. This too is really very good but note well that it's indisputably built-to-age.Inc. VAT£5,716.32 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru, which is completely de-stemmed, has a very sensual and generous bouquet with very pretty black cherries, raspberry preserve, overripe Satsuma and mineral scents that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, more backward than the aromatics at the moment but very well balanced with super-fine tannin framing the feminine and quite persistent finish. Good potential here.Inc. VAT£2,146.82 -

The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed. It has a well-defined bouquet of intense blackberry, bilberry and light floral scents, plus touches of incense and pressed iris flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and quite firmly structured, so that it grips the mouth (though not as forcefully as the 2018 Chambertin). The spicy finish lingers in the mouth. Very fine.Inc. VAT£2,167.22 -

Wildly scented with mulberries, sweet spice, underbrush and department store perfume counter (in a pleasant way), this is aromatically enchanting. Beautifully balanced, the tannins caress while the acidity invigorates the palate. The finish is achingly long. Made entirely in barrels with 30% new oak, this exemplifies the delicate flair of Puligny. Starting off with dried white flowers, tree blooms, baking spice and orchard fruit, the aromas are very diverse. The mid-palate is focused with good density and the flavors finish with a pleasant, mouth-coating richness. This is enticingly accessible already. 2022-35Inc. VAT£897.89 -

Vinous (91-93)
(totally destemmed; the crop level was just 23 hectoliters per hectare but there was little frost damage here, according to Gublin): Deep red with ruby tones. Deeper, more important nose hints at medicinal dark cherry and spices. A big step up in concentration over the basic Santenots, conveying an almost chocolatey ripeness and terrific density to its kirsch, spice and savory mineral flavors. This fruit was picked four days later than the younger Santenots vines and the wine delivers much more complexity and grip. Shows a relaxed quality that belies the low yield. Excellent balance and potential here.Inc. VAT£829.09 -

Full ruby-red. Wild, ripe aromas of black raspberry, chocolate and licorice. Densely packed, sweet and a bit reduced, with a rather burly, monolithic character today. This deep, thick wine is extremely unevolved in the middle palate, but the tannins are ripe and fine-grained and the finish shows excellent length. I'd forget about this one for a decade.Inc. The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots is showing quite well from bottle, offering up aromas of ripe blackberries, plums and cherries, framed by creamy new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with juicy acids, fine tannins and a gently oak-inflected finish. This derives from young vines in Prieur's Clos des Santenots.Inc. Selosse has delivered maximum impact with this 'Version Originale', which is an assemblage of Avize, Cramant and Oger. it has an intense grapefruit nose with hints of grilled nuts and dried honey as well as dried wild flowers and strong chalky minerals. The flavors are concentrated, the acidity vibrant, and Selosse has layered this to build nicely through lemons, grapefruit and peaches before heading to more savory toasted hazelnuts. The final moment shows mineral spark. Complex and balanced, powerful and compelling. Drink now.Inc. VAT£479.71 -

The NV Demi-Sec Exquise (base 2017) is a selection from the lower slopes of Oger, where soils are rich in clay and where fruit ripens earlier. It was bottled with 22 grams of dosage. In its newest incarnation, Exquise now spends at least four years in the cellar prior to release to help integrate the higher dosage. Rich layers of citrus mingle with scents of chamomile, marzipan and dried flowers, filling out the layers effortlessly. This most recent edition of Exquise will be finished with a retro label.Inc. The NV (2019) Extra-Brut Mareuil-sur-Aÿ Sous Le Mont is elegant, nuanced and super polished. Cranberry, white pepper, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco and rose petal are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. This is one of the most elegant, refined editions of Sous Le Mont I have ever tasted. It's an ethereal, delicate Champagne with an equilibrium defined by grace and a silky, polished finish more than overt power. All this needs is time in bottle to blossom. Closing notes of blood orange and Campari are classic Mareuil. Dosage is 1.7 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 9, 2026.Inc. VAT£596.24 -

Wine Advocate (99)
The most harmonious wine of the six lieux-dits this year—and one of the finest renditions of this cuvée—is the 2018-based NV Ambonnay Le Bout du Clos, disgorged in February 2025 without dosage. The wine unfurls from the glass with a deep bouquet of orange oil, dried flowers, lychee and Sichuan pepper, mingled with kumquat and almond paste. On the palate, it is full-bodied and precise, with an elegantly muscular core of fruit, uniting the typical depth of complexity attained in this bottling with ample structuring extract that provides a vivid sense of freshness. Simultaneously grandiose and racy, it is driven by a bright spine of acidity and culminates in a long, searingly saline finish. Multifaceted and complete, it encapsulates everything that is so compelling about the Selosse lieux-dits. As ever, it derives from two south-facing parcels within the same lieu-dit that are characterized by clay-rich soils, and it is composed of approximately 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, which are picked and pressed together. The historic blend dates back to 2002.Inc. VAT£761.84 -

The NV (2019) Extra-Brut Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Les Carelles is another magnificent wine in this range of Blanc de Blancs lieux-dits from Selosse. It offers some of the solar intensity of Cramant and the vertical structure of Avize. The 2019 is opulent and very rich, but not at all heavy. Orange confit, spice, tangerine oil, spice, menthol, passion fruit and a kiss of French oak stain the palate. Not drinking this requires an almost inhuman amount of discipline.
