Vinous (92)
Deep violet color. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit aromas are enlivened by peppery spices and fresh flowers. Dense and palate-coating, offering concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors that stretch out and gain vivacity with air. Dusty tannins give grip to a penetrating, long finish that features suave floral pastille and berry liqueur qualities. I had the chance to revisit the 2011 Grandes Places and, as was the case last year, it's showing a surprisingly open-knit character, with sappy dark fruit and floral qualities and no rough edges. While it has the depth to suggest that up to a decade of patience would be rewarded, there's plenty going on to grab one's attention now as well.Inc. VAT£141.59 -

Burghound (93)
A notably ripe and ever-so-mildly exotic but not really surmature nose consists primarily of spicy white orchard fruit along with hints of wood, white flowers and viognier. The rich, opulent and vibrant broad-shouldered flavors possess lovely complexity while delivering excellent length on the powerful and focused if somewhat linear finish. This will almost certainly add body with age, and it appears to be structured for mid to even longer-term cellaring.Inc. VAT£3,123.12 -

The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from a one-third hectare of vines of which half is en friche (fallow), so only a couple of barrels are produced. It has a very delineated bouquet with enticing citrus peel, crushed pebbles, Clementine and blackcurrant leaf aromas. The palate is very well balanced with impressive concentration and slightly viscous on the entry. Quite rich for a Bâtard-Montrachet yet poised and mineral-driven on the finish. What a wonderful Bâtard-Montrachet - and I confess that I could not resist a cheeky morning sip!Inc. VAT£2,964.36 -

Sample taken from barrel and tank. Clear mid yellow. The bouquet is very backward today but there is great class to the fruit on the palate, with a little honeydew melon suddenly surging forth at the finish. Multi-layered, at the very least adequate acidity with a very long aftertaste. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Dec 2024.Inc. VAT£2,450.80 -

The 2008 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret has a delightful bouquet, perhaps now fully mature with almond, grilled walnut and light minty aromas developing in the glass. I appreciate the cohesion and focus here. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, quite phenolic and pithy. The acidity could maybe be a little higher just to counter that weight, although I like the unabashed spiciness and that tang of white pepper that lingers on the aftertaste. This is worth seeking out. Tasted at Sarah Marsh's 2008 White Burgundy tasting.Inc. VAT£669.34 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
Sample taken from barrel and tank. Mid to full lemon yellow. A remarkably intense bouquet with a sizzling crystalline character. The 2021 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru shows a little more reduction on the nose compared to other cuvées but a pleasant flintiness develops with time. The 2019 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru is quite expressive on the nose of red and green apples; touches of orange blossom develop with air. The lightly spiced palate is concentrated, a richer style for the vintage, and then turns quite nutty thanks to deeper, more clay-rich soils that lend toastiness on the finish. Very fine.Inc. (from Montmains proper; 40% 2 and 3-year-old oak). Prominent notes of mineral reduction and just picked white flowers suffuse the aromas of tidal pool, algae and zest. Lovely and understated in style.Inc. VAT£273.20 -

(from Montmains proper; 40% 2 and 3-year-old oak). Here too there is a discreet application of wood in evidence, which is all that is evident as the nose is quite firmly reduced.
