  • Bachelet-Monnot Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (92+)

Bright green-tinged yellow. Fresh apricot, white peach and hints of exotic fruits on the nose. Fat, rich and powerful, displaying a slight medicinal aspect and a muscular reserve today in spite of its considerable mid-palate sweetness. Very backward, youthfully aggressive Batard, with a bit of oaky dryness on the back end.

  • Bachelet-Monnot Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2012 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (93+)

Bright pale yellow. Extremely closed following the April bottling, hinting at an almost metallic mineral character. Densely packed and powerfully structured, with stone and citrus fruit flavors currently blocked by a menthol quality and an impression of tannins. Plenty of tactile extract and energy today, and very long on the finish, but this wine will need patience. Reminded me of a red wine in its structure.
  • Bachelet-Monnot Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (95)

The 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is austere on the nose, but I am impressed by the mineralité and tension and the touches of petrichor and Granny Smith apples. This gains presence in the glass, remaining aloof but captivating. The palate is beautifully balanced with real concentration and depth, matched by a killer line of acidity and lip-smacking salinity on the finish. Very complex and very persistent, this is a brilliant Bâtard-Montrachet. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.
  • Bachelet-Monnot Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (95)

The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru sees no new oak and is aged instead in one and two-year-old 350-litre barrels. It has a gorgeous bouquet with lemon curd, nectarine and crushed rock aromas, very seductive even at this premature stage. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, fresh and crisp with an almost graphite tinged finish. So much nervosité is coiled up in this Bâtard - it will give 20-30 years of drinking pleasure.

  • Bachelet-Monnot Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 (3x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-98)

Mid lemon yellow. The nose is quite hard to tease out. Some apples a suggestion of power, which really comes out on the palate. Almost a bit heated, almost too much. I am sure this will come together but not quite showing today. You can see there is much more though. Powerful white fruit. Some ripe citrus starts to appear at the back. This is a sleeper which may very well deliver a great deal more than I am giving it now.
  • Bachelet-Monnot Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2021 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (95-97)

The 2021 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, which is one of the first picked to capture the acidity, comprises just one barrel this year (one year old). It has a very intense bouquet, quite mineral-driven with limestone and sea spray scents, just a subtle reduction on the background. The palate has exquisite balance, fresh on the entry, rather deep with plenty of substance and slightly pithy towards the finish. There is a lot in this Bâtard-Montrachet, and it has impressive persistence. This is one of the standouts from the Grand Cru in this traumatic season - some achievement.

Pale lemon. An attractive nose without quite attaining the nobility of the Puligny. Excellent siting of the plots. The fruit in the mouth ups the ante though, and this works really well with a delicious quality of fruit. Love the finish and the length.
  • Bachelet-Monnot Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 2021 (6x75cl)

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Village was cropped at a respectable 30hl/ha due to the late pruning in this vineyard.
