Looking at the two whites from this great address, the 2022 Pagodes De Cos Blanc is based on 57% Sauvignon Blanc and 43% Semillon. Crushed citrus, honeyed mint, tropical fruits, and a salty, seashell-like sense of minerality all emerge from this beauty, and it's medium-bodied, with a bright, vibrant mouthfeel, clean acidity, and a great finish.

Based on 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon, the 2023 Pagodes De Cos Blanc sports a brilliant white hue as well as caramelized citrus, chalky minerality, and minty herbs. Take your sense of taste on a journey with the Paisajes y Vinedos Paisajes VII Cecias 2005. This splendid Rioja wine is born of the prestigious winescape of La Rioja, Spain. It hails specifically from the 3rd micro-parcel of Vinedos de los Paisajes where each vine is tended with meticulous attention.

Produced only from the stellar 2005 vintage, the wine exudes cityscape of harmonic complexity and grace. Traditional fermentation techniques were used, followed by 14 months of aging in French oak imparting a refined depth to the wine. The 2016 Barbaresco Serraboella delivers the same grace and beautiful fragility that you get in the other wines in Paitin's portfolio of new releases. This production of 9,800 bottles shows a slow and steady progression of wild berry, forest floor, blue flower, dried lilac, blood orange and delicate licorice or tar. There's a lot going on in terms of the bouquet, and all that energy is nicely balanced by the wine's lithe body and its natural tannic backbone.

A vivid, solid Barbaresco with intense density of fruit and ripe tannins. It’s full-bodied with lots of plums and chocolate with some walnuts and bark. Extremely flavorful and powerful. Try after 2024.

The 2018 Barbaresco Serraboella is a very pretty wine. In this vintage, the Serraboella is quite ethereal in feel. Rose petal, orange peel, spice, mint and sweet dried cherry all lift in the glass. The Serraboella is a typically light to medium-bodied wine that reflects the modest depth of the year.

The 2019 Barbaresco Serraboella remains elegant while taking on more spiced aromatics in its notes of licorice, red cherry, and blood orange. Possessing balance and linear structure, it has angular yet fine tannins, a fresh spine of acidity, and a great finish. This is a great value to drink 2023-2030.

Vinous (88)

The 2015 Barbaresco Sorì Paitin offers a bit more textural depth and resonance than the Serra Boella, but it, too, is quite marked by the personality of the year. Rose petal, hard candy, mint and crushed raspberry all develop in the glass. Grippy tannins provide a good measure of balance, but I am not sure there is enough fruit to support more than a few years of cellaring.

The 2017 Barbaresco Sorì Paitin is another gorgeous wine from the Pasquero family. It has more power, depth and structure than the Serraboella, with a slightly darker tonalities of fruit and more tannic heft, but the differences between the two wines are not as marked as they can be. That’s what happens sometimes in warm, dry vintages – the differences between sites are baked out. Even so, the Sorì Paitin offers quite a bit of character. I would cellar it for at least a few years.

Nervy tannins wrap around a core of red berry fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and mint. I would give the Sorì Paitin a few years in bottle to soften, but imagine it will always remain a lighter wine by the estate's historical standard. It will be interesting to see where this goes. In 2018, there is no Vecchie Vigne; the best fruit was used here.

The 2015 Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca' Veja is laced with the essence of crushed raspberry, rose petal and mint. Light to medium in body and nicely lifted, the 2015 is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Soft, silky tannins add to the wine's finesse. This is very nicely done.

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)

The 1993 Tokaji Essencia was a miniscule maiden release of 400 bottles, so this is now extremely rare, a handful remaining in Mád. It contains 580 g/l residual sugar and 18.1 g/l acidity. There is a slight turbidity here, as it is believed that the 1993 did not go through a precise clarification. It has a slightly more tertiary nose, revealing hints of damp loam that percolate through the fig, date and marmalade scents. Later, there is a subtle estuarine element. The palate is surprisingly light on its toes, with fine tension and vitality. High acidity maintains a sense of energy, though this just tapers towards the finish unlike and leaves a slightly bitter residue.
