  • Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero 2014 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

Fabio Alessandria of Comm. G.B. Burlotto tells me that he always believed in the controversial 2014 vintage. He never had any doubts regarding the inherent quality buried deep within this difficult vintage with its temperature extremes and humidity-based diseases. The 2014 Barolo Monvigliero ultimately proves to be a fragile and delicate wine with pure essence of wild rose and violet. Monvigliero is known as the perfumed vineyard, thanks to those beautiful floral nuances. While contemplating the bouquet, you feel like you are standing in the middle of a rose garden. The wine offers loose-knit structure with fine tannins that are polished, etched and very linear. Some 7,500 bottles were made in 2014, down from an average annual production of 8,000.

  • Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero 2015 (1x300cl)

    Decanter (98)

Fabio Alessandria impressed with his Monvigliero 2014. In the cool, rainy vintage he was able to produce a Barolo with a Pinot-like elegance. He was one of the first producers to introduce a small amount of stalks to the Nebbiolo during winemaking. In the warm vintage of 2015 his Monvigliero is extremely pale and garnet-coloured yet full of fresh flowery notes such as peony, violet and rose, with rhubarb plant, wild strawberry and cinnamon candy aromas and flavours. Super elegant, it shows firm, velvety tannins with an austere finish yet a great integration of fruit. Rarely is it possible to taste such a balance of elegance and power.

    Vinous (100)

The 2016 Barolo Monvigliero is utterly spellbinding in its profoundness. In this vintage, the Monvigliero moves into shades of more blue-toned fruit. Whole clusters, always 100%, are remarkably integrated. Rose petal, lavender, mint, crushed flowers, wild red berries, blueberry, blood orange and mint are some of the many notes that grace this exceptional, silky Barolo. The 2016 was fermented with low temperatures and spent two months on the skins. With its laser-like focus and incredible cut, tension and nuance, the Monvigliero will be slow to reveal itself, but wow - what a wine.

    The Wine Independent (98)

This 2017 Comm. G.B. Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero is from the Monvigliero vineyard, which is the jewel in the crown of Verduno. Often described as the most Burgundy-like of Barolos, this wine lives up to its reputation. It is a medium-deep, bright and youthful ruby color with a rich, dense, intensely perfumed rose garden and hedonistic spice nose with notes of exotic sandalwood. The aromas and flavors are persistent and intense. The soft, round, velvety, silky texture and dense red berry and raspberry coulis flavors combine. There’s a little grip and bite to the tannins and maybe an element of green herb in the background. A lovely, sensual wine.

    Vinous (96)

The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero is the most reticent of these 2018 Barolos, but it was also bottled nearly a year later. All the signatures are there, though, starting with the effusive bouquet that makes the Burlotto Monvigliero so alluring. • Burlotto Langhe Nebbiolo 2022 (6x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (90)

Bright transparent ruby, the 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is spicy with underlying fresh ripeness, offering notes of cinnamon, pomegranate, dried strawberries, and spices. Medium-bodied, it has a nice, chalky texture, with fresh lift, notes of ripe tangerine, and a clean finish. It has a refreshing feel that can be enjoyed now or over the next few years.
  • Burlotto Viridis Langhe Sauvignon 2022 (6x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (90)

A brilliant silver straw color, the 2022 Langhe Sauvignon Viridis is zesty and bright on the nose with notes of lime zest, white peaches, zesty herbs, and white pepper. Elegant and midweight, it’s chalky in texture, with notes of fresh flowers and green honeydew melon on the palate, as well as a mouthwatering finish. Fresh and inviting, it’s going to be a lovely wine to enjoy over the next few years.

  • Burn Cottage Pinot Noir 2013 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93+)

Deep ruby-purple the 2013 Pinot Noir has a youthfully reticent, brooding nose with hints of black berries and plums plus underlying aged beef, chargrill, anise and lavender suggestions. Medium bodied, the palate reveals great ripeness packed into a relatively elegant package with a medium level of fine grained tannins – impressive texture in fact – harmonious acidity, and a good long finish.
  • Burn Cottage Pinot Noir 2014 (12x75cl)

    Bob Campbell MW (97)

While lacking the flamboyant fruit and silkiness of the 2009 vintage, this beautifully constructed wine gets a tick in every box. It is seamless, concentrated and teasingly restrained giving just a glimpse of what it will have to offer after bottle development. Classy wine with a great future.
  • Burn Cottage Pinot Noir 2017 (1x75cl)

    Bob Campbell MW (97)

I never swallow samples during tasting but got pretty close with this wine. It’s just so damn delicious with layer upon layer of fruit and savoury characters that defy description. A tease of fruit sweetness is balanced by gentle tannins and subtle acidity that drive a very lengthy finish. A seriously good Pinot Noir.

  • Burn Cottage Pinot Noir 2020 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (97)

The 2020 Pinot Noir Burn Cottage Vineyard is not a wine that I want to deconstruct into its components as it exemplifies balance, harmony and completeness, and I want to drink a lot of it. It is a wine that is the sum of its parts rather than its individual elements. It is young and can be approached now, but deserves bottle aging. It is full-bodied and suave but being from Central Otago - at the bottom of the earth next stop penguins - it has a sense of coolness and freshness, enlivening its entirety and retaining a sense of melodic direction among the mellow bass sections. There's a very small percentage of whole clusters (7%) that combine with the natural garrigue notes of Central Otago Pinot to provide herbal lift alongside pure cherry fruit and carefully judged oak.

  • Burn Cottage Pinot Noir 2021 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

The 2021 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir is alive and energetic, svelte and composed. As I write this, I am sitting at the bottom of the Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn, looking up the rows. This is a mineral, nuanced expression, with graphite and white tea, pomegranate pearls, raspberry licorice, rosehips and crushed pink peppercorns. This is what I came here for. It’s thrilling, lacy, delicate and focused. Exciting wine, exciting drinking. It sits on the palate nicely—evenly weighted, and it spools through the long finish... yes! 13.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
  • Burn Cottage Sauvage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

The 2021 Sauvage Vineyard Pinot Noir is supremely pretty. It's elegant and fine and still powerful, thanks to the Bannockburn area; however, the wine itself shows rose petals and spring flowers, graphite and pencil lead, white pepper and tapenade. Svelte and sleek, this is composed and detailed and so, so good. I am (mostly) resisting hyperbole and adverbs here. This is a standout wine from a superstar producer—an asset for the region and indeed the country (and the New World in general). 13.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.

Rose petal, spice, orange peel, kirsch and raspberry unfurl gradually in the glass. The 2018 is understated and mysterious today. I can't wait to see how it ages.

  • Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero 2020 (1x300cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (95)

A wild beast, the medium ruby 2020 Barolo Monvigliero shows off a wild perfume in this vintage, with a rustic edge and lifted notes of menthol, orange zest, cinnamon, pomegranate, and saddle leather. It drives with vibrant energy on the palate, where all its components come together, with a chalky texture and a long finish. This spicy and slightly rustic wine from Burlotto is going to benefit from another year or two in bottle. Drink 2026-2040.
