The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru comes from estate and purchased fruit, five or six different sources blended during vinification, and includes around 35% whole bunches. The bright bouquet offers dark cherries, wild strawberries, and hints of wild heather and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate has pliant tannins, is quite harmonious, and has more dark fruit toward the finish, laced with dark chocolate and brown spices. Very fine.Inc. VAT£706.40 -

Made up from 16 different plots. A pale lemon colour. The nose is undemonstrative but one senses the concentration behind. Indeed, the fruit builds to the back of the palate with a little ripe citrus and correct acidity. Fine length, a little more interest than the very capable Puligny. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. VAT£574.32 -

An unusually bright, light-gold color with hints of green in it distinguish this rare wine from the first glance before rich, layered and complex aromas lead to even richer poached pears, hazelnuts and cream on the palate. Full-bodied but light on its feet, the wine shows deft balance, great depth and incredible length on the finish. Best from 2028.Inc. VAT£4,584.35 -

The 2022 Musigny Grand Cru underwent two pickings, August 27 for the declassified younger vines, and September 5. It has a well-defined bouquet with touches of undergrowth infusing the brambly red fruit, graphite and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh, and vibrant with svelte tannins, fine acidity, and an elegant finish. This very refined Musigny will improve with bottle age.Inc. VAT£3,173.16 -

An attractive mid crimson colour. A fine fresh bouquet, elegant fruit, not too demonstrative, but with a graceful detailed red fruit, alpine strawberry and little raspberry notes. Very nicely put together, all about the fruit more than the structure. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. VAT£552.80 -

The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Très Vieilles Vignes is terrific, unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries and dark berries mingled with notions of licorice, violets, rose petals and spices. Full-bodied, deep and layered, it's concentrated and multidimensional, with the most body and incipient complexity of any wine in the range, concluding with a long, expansive finish.Inc. The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 1er Cru was also raised in 40% new oak. [Incidentally, 0.6ha will be planted with Chardonnay in 2024]. Slightly deeper in color compared to the Clos de l'Arlot, this has slightly more cohesion and complexity on the nose: dark cherries and crushed stone, a hint of wilted rose petals in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with beautifully integrated new oak, lending this a velvety veneer. It is a little plush yet with equivalent tension and a detailed, slightly piquant finish. This is an outstanding Nuits Saint-Georges from the Domaine.Inc. VAT£622.32 -

A mid crimson colour, slightly deeper than Mont des Oiseaux. Rather more pure red fruit on the bouquet. This cuvée no longer contains Clos des Lambrays young vines. The plot called 30 rangs (planted 2000) was in this wine up to 2021. La Riotte and Le Village remain, the 20 ares of Clos Sorbe has been added to new vineyards (see below) from Domaine Cosson, but instead there is fruit from half a hectare of Les Blanchards, also ex Cosson. Glowing purple. A beautifully lifted bouquet with 40% whole bunches, alpine strawberries, all in finesse. Then the wine builds to an extra level of intensity, more than expected from the elegance of the nose, The fruit shows additional nuances as well, entirely red fruit, some ripe cherries now showing as well. Just a few spices to finish.Inc. VAT£824.00 -

Some light green reflections in the primrose yellow colour. A stricter nose, perhaps a touch of sulphur. This may also appear more backward coming after the Charmes. Then a vast wealth of fruit on the palate and now we see the real wine. It maintains the herbal note I associate with Genevrières, alongside golden fruit at a perfect degree of ripeness. The fruit and the acidity weave in and out of each other. I would not want the fruit to be riper but it is full of charm as it stands, and kept in place by the precision of the structure. Very fine. Drink from 2029-2037.Inc. VAT£516.72 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet has a little softer orchard fruit compared to the Bourgogne, and is very true to its Meursault roots. The white fruit continues on the palate and is now joined by a saline note, while the ripe apples give an immediate appeal. There are little waves of flavour towards the back of the palate. Once again the aftertaste is fine, precise and thoroughly promising. Drink from 2027-2032.Inc. VAT£423.20 -

A rich purple in colour. The bouquet does not deliver much as yet but the fruit is so seductive at the front of the palate, though still very unresolved further back with fresher tannins which still need time to integrate. I expect the 2022 Chambertin to have excellent keeping qualities. Drink from 2035-2045+. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. VAT£2,531.54
