The 2015 Haut-Condissas had been bottled a week before my visit. That said, there does not appear to be too much bottle shock, and there are lovely black cherry, cassis fruit tinged with incense and violets. The oak is neatly integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, an attractive saline note that lends this 2015 sappiness and neatly counterbalances the concentration of the vintage. I appreciate the focus here and the nascent energy, a Haut-Condissas that should easily give 20+ years of pleasure. Tasted at the Haut-Condissas vertical at the property.

The 2016 Haut Condissas has an opulent bouquet with crème de cassis, blueberry and light truffle scents that emerge with time. The palate is sweet on the entry but there is plenty of structure here, grippy in the mouth with cedar and tobacco infused dense black fruit on the finish. This will require a couple of years in bottle but there is clearly potential here.

This shows lots of rich, ripe fruit with blue-fruit, rather than red-fruit character, suggesting ripe, but not overripe character. Full body, soft and round tannins and a flavorful finish.

Blackberry, black-olive and violet aromas follow through to a full to medium body with round, creamy tannins and a juicy finish. Very pretty.

The 2016 Patache d’Aux has a lovely, joyful bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry, tinged with mint and light cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, well balanced with much more poise than many of its Cru Bourgeois peers. This is a classy offering from Patache d’Aux. Excellent. The 2005 Potensac is absolutely gorgeous. The aromatics alone are beguiling. Delicate, elegant and super-expressive, this Potensac is absolutely gorgeous in 2005, Time in the decanter brings out the fruit nicely, yet the 2005 remains light on its feet and a wine of real finesse. It is also still young and full of life. What a treat it is to taste it from a perfectly stored bottle.

The 2009 Potensac has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, melted tar, black tea and graphite scents. Nicely defined it maybe a little conservative given the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity. Classic in style with fine graphite and cedar notes towards the finish. Enjoy this now and over the next decade. This is one of the fruitiest Potensacs that I remember, with loads of blueberry and currants. Full and velvety. Plenty going on underneath.

Wine Enthusiast (91)

Coming from the same stable as Léoville las Cases in Saint-Julien, the wine is finely structured with firm tannins and dark fruit. Rich plum flavors are counterbalanced by solid tannins. It needs to age, so drink from 2018.

What a racy and focused Potensac with wonderful density and finesse as well as a firm and polished tannins that hold the whole thing together. A beautiful, reasoned young red. One of best Potensacs in a long time.
