Decanter (91)

This successful wine feels zippy and bright, with good fruit definition. I really like how this takes shape over the course of the palate, starting off with fresh, summery red fruits and slowly expanding through the palate to develop blackberry and hawthorn notes. It's not up to the standard of 2016, but sits between the '14 and '15 in my opinion. Enjoy that waft of coffee smoke on the finish. 54% of grand vin compared to 65% in 2016, so they were being extremely selective. 1% Petit Verdot makes up the blend.

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)

As I mentioned in my tasting note from barrel, the 2020 Potensac displays a little more opulence on the nose compared to other vintages. This is certainly true in bottle, though it retains a sense of composure, mainly red fruit laced with tobacco and a touch of leather. The palate is nicely balanced with fine tannins, crisp acidity, just a touch of licorice infusing the mixture of red and black fruit, a welcome tarriness imparting some classic Claret notes on the finish. A fine Potensac.

The 2022 Château Potensac is darker and more concentrated, featuring currants, spring flowers, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, with layered depth, balanced structure, and beautiful tannins, it’s a serious, structured Potensac that should evolve well for 15-20+ years.

Beautiful dark fruit with purity and freshness. Medium- to full-bodied, seamless and compact. Outstanding quality of tannins, so fine and dense. It’s muscular and taut on the mid-palate. Lingering, too. Plenty of energy. Close to 2022.

The 2015 Rolland de By has come together nicely since I tasted it from barrel. There is plenty of both depth and definition to the dark cherry, tobacco and grilled herb flavors. Pliant, supple and inviting, the 2015 will drink nicely for at least the next handful of years.

The 2016 Rollan de By has a tightly wound bouquet with layers of blackberry, bilberry, cedar and light crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, finely proportioned with a crisp bead of acidity. This is a slightly more classically styled Rollan de By with a lovely pencil shaving tinged finish that keeps you coming back for more. Excellent.

The Rollan de By 2018, embodies the quintessential elegance of Médoc wines. This exquisite vintage, hailing from the vineyards nestled along the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region in France, is produced by Jean Guyon, an acclaimed name in French winemaking. The Rollan de By 2018, predominantly Merlot, graced with a harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, undergoes traditional vinification in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, followed by extended maturation in French oak barrels to enhance its richness and complexity.

This fine wine is notable for its inviting ruby red hue, potent blackcurrant, cherry and vanilla aromas and full-bodied palate bursting with layered tannins, ensuring a long, velvety finish. Renowned wine critics have lavished praise on its balanced structure and depth. On the whole, the virtues manifested in the Rollan de By 2018 prove it a supreme testament of Médoc's terroir and passionately meticulous craftsmanship.

Wine Advocate (88)

Reminiscent of a mini-Grand Puy Lacoste with its cassis fruit, attractive aromatics, lush, sweet, medium-bodied flavors, and inky/ruby/purple color, the 2005 Tour St.-Bonnet sells for a fraction of the price of the Grand-Puy-Lacoste. But beggars can’t be that choosy, right? Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

Though this appellation encompasses the entirety of the left bank north of the city of Bordeaux, when it appears on a label, it generally refers to the gravelly vineyards north of Saint-Estephe at the mouth of the Gironde. The wines here tend to mature more quickly, but they are by no means of lesser quality. The landscape here is dominated by the 25 Cru Bourgeois chateaux, producing perfumed wines of excellent structure and quality.
