(12x75cl) 2014Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89)
The 2014 Laroze is a rich, dense wine. Smoke, wild cherry, tobacco and game give the wine its distinctive feral personality. There is no shortage of power or density, but the Laroze never manages to shake its rustic feel. The blend is 68 % Merlot, 26 % Cabernet Franc and 6 % Cabernet Sauvignon. Hubert de Boüard is the consulting winemaker. Tasted two times.Inc. VAT£340.18 -
Jeb Dunnuck (94)
Checking in as 62% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc that was brought up in roughly 70% new oak, the 2015 Château Laroze is straight up gorgeous. Cassis, black cherries, spring flowers, lead pencil shavings and hints of tobacco all give way to a ripe, sexy, concentrated Saint-Emilion that has sweet, polished tannin, plenty of mid-palate depth and a great finish. This beauty builds with time in the glass, is seamless, and just a sensational drink.Inc. VAT£400.01 -
(12x75cl) 2016Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 2016 Laroze comes across more Left Bank than Right, showing good definition, but broody and surly at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, intense opening of dark cherry and cranberry fruit laced with white pepper and Chinese five-spice. Good length here, and nice structure. This should age with style. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Inc. VAT£385.78 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)
Opulent and racy, the 2018 Laroze hits all the right notes. Cinnamon, new leather, lavender and cedar add gorgeous aromatic top notes to a core of succulent red cherry fruit. Soft contours add immediacy and allure throughout. Best of all, the 2018 will drink well with minimal cellaring.Inc. VAT£389.04 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)
The 2019 Laroze offers up copious dark cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice and leather flavors. There is a bit of tannin that needs time to resolve, but overall this is a forward, juicy style that is likely best enjoyed over the medium term.Inc. VAT£364.01 -

The 2018 Larrivet Haut-Brion has developed into a gorgeous wine. There is plenty of the tannin I saw in my barrel tastings, and yet all the elements are so well balanced today. Iron, cedar, dried herbs, licorice, dried flowers and mint add striking savory undertones to this deceptively mid weight Pessac-Léognan. Larrivet Haut-Brion is one of the most distinctive reds of the vintage.Inc. VAT£215.75 -

The 2022 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion checks in as 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, and 18% Merlot that spent 16 months in barrel. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a beautifully perfumed, medium to full-bodied, elegant 2022 that has red, blue, and some black fruits, a lifted, floral perfume of incense, smoky tobacco, and blood orange, fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully done, and while it's already accessible, it should age beautifully for two decades.Inc. VAT£203.15 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)
The 2023 Larrivet Haut-Brion is terrific, just as it was en primeur. A wine of polish, nuance and delineation, it dazzles from start to finish. Crushed rocks, blood orange, mint and pomegranate soar from the glass. The 2023 exudes purity and nuance, along with a compelling mix of power and finesse.Inc. VAT£201.80 -
(6x75cl) 2012Wine Advocate (91)
Tasted blind at the Southwold 2012 tasting. The 2012 Larrivet Haut-Brion Blanc felt as if it was burdened with too much new oak on the nose, though underneath lie some attractive citrus fruit mixed with peach and apricot skin. I will be optimistic and opine that the oak will be subsumed as long as it is afforded two or three years of cellaring. The palate is well balanced, the new oak lending creaminess and a slight nuttiness - indeed, blind you might almost mistake it for a Meursault. Partly it is because of the new oak, but I can still see how this has wide appeal and you end up being seduced. Tasted January 2016.Inc. VAT£285.36 -
Jeb Dunnuck (94)
The 2018 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion Blanc checks in as 75% Sauvignon and 25% Sémillon that was brought up in 25% new French oak. It has a classic (and terrific) nose of honeyed grapefruit, exotic flowers, and a liquid rock-like minerality. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Bordeaux Blanc with a rounded, expansive texture, nicely integrated acidity, terrific overall balance, and a great, dry, crisp finish. It's already drinking nicely, and while I wouldn't push the aging curve, I wouldn't bet against it drinking brilliant for 15 years either. This wasn't a great vintage for the whites, but this is impressive.Inc. VAT£297.35 -

The light-styled 1998 Lascombes offers sweet cherry fruit intermixed with cedar, spice box, and dried herbs. Although it lacks depth, this offering is symmetrical, well-balanced, and elegant. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years.Inc. VAT£419.09 -
Wine Enthusiast (90)
There is a high level of wood here, but that is sustained by the weight of the black fruits and the rich tannins. The wood gives a vanilla character that will disappear in a year or two, leaving a solid wine that is dominated by ripe, sweet Merlot.Inc. VAT£763.61 -
