The 2014 Vieux Chateau Mazerat has evolved a really quite intriguing bouquet, quite potent and very perfumed, iris and crushed violets, red berry fruit and a touch of wild mint. There is a soupçon of something Burgundian here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, quite sophisticated spicy red fruit with a silky finish that conveys great tension. Located just to the east of Angélus and bordering Canon, the 2016 Vieux Château Mazerat is 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc brought up in 80% new oak. Huge blackcurrant, smoke, and barbecue notes along with some hints of meat, licorice, and spice all emerge from this rich, full-bodied, fleshy, meaty effort. It displays plenty of underlying minerality, some charcoal, and gravelly minerality, building tannins, and a long finish.In Bond£435.00
Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years.
