Cassis, black cherries, spring flowers, lead pencil shavings and hints of tobacco all give way to a ripe, sexy, concentrated Saint-Emilion that has sweet, polished tannin, plenty of mid-palate depth and a great finish. This beauty builds with time in the glass, is seamless, and just a sensational drink. |

Larrivet Haut-Brion is one of the most distinctive reds of the vintage. |

Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a beautifully perfumed, medium to full-bodied, elegant 2022 that has red, blue, and some black fruits, a lifted, floral perfume of incense, smoky tobacco, and blood orange, fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully done, and while it's already accessible, it should age beautifully for two decades. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94)The 2018 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion Blanc checks in as 75% Sauvignon and 25% Sémillon that was brought up in 25% new French oak. It has a classic (and terrific) nose of honeyed grapefruit, exotic flowers, and a liquid rock-like minerality. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Bordeaux Blanc with a rounded, expansive texture, nicely integrated acidity, terrific overall balance, and a great, dry, crisp finish. It's already drinking nicely, and while I wouldn't push the aging curve, I wouldn't bet against it drinking brilliant for 15 years either. This wasn't a great vintage for the whites, but this is impressive. |

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years.
