This small jewel of a property owned by the Garcin family has been making great wine for a number of years, with the only problem being its very limited availability. Their beautifully deep 2005 has a dark purple color and displays charcoal, blackberry and cassis fruit, with some smoky barbecue notes in the background. This full-bodied, opulent wine is still youthful at age 10, and promises to continue to evolve for another 15-20 years. Pure and stunning, this is a great wine of the vintage.Inc. VAT£485.12 -

This magnificent, dense plum/purple-colored Pessac-Leognan reveals notes of scorched earth, burning embers, blackberries and truffles. Composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from a vineyard gorgeously situated between Malartic Lagraviere and Haut-Bailly, it possesses full-bodied power, a stunningly intense, voluptuous, layered mouthfeel and abundant levels of fruit, glycerin and tannin. The 2009 ranks alongside the magnificent 2000, which is aging at a glacial pace. Unfortunately, proprietress Helene Garcin only produces around 500 cases of this somewhat cult-ish Pessac-Leognan. Once again in 2010, notes of mocha, espresso roast, chocolate, creme de cassis and scorched earth soar from this opaque purple-colored wine. It is aged in 100% new oak, but that is hardly noticeable given the wine’s sensational richness and extravagant fruit. This wine is classic, full-bodied and intense. It’s just a shame that less than 8,000 bottles are usually made. This wine is still backward, but very full, rich, and impressively pure in texture. The 2019 Château Brown has a mélange of red and black fruit on the nose, touches of espresso and tobacco emerging with time. Perhaps I was anticipating a little more complexity given the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied and quite saline, with a peppery opening, good tension, fine grip and decent length on the finish. Hopefully the aromatics will up its game, as this certainly has potential.In Bond£131.50 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (86-88)
The 2020 Château Brown was picked from September 15 to October 1, cropped at 35hl/ha and matured in one-third new oak. It offers dark berry fruit on the nose mixed with espresso and light tobacco scents, perhaps lacking a little focus. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. The oak needs to be more in sync with the fruit and there is just a patina of dryness toward the finish. I would aver that the previous two vintages have the upper hand.In Bond£250.00
