The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy entry and gentle grip, the whole bunch working well here, and quite saline on the finish. Excellent. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93)Ripe black cherries, darker currants, cedar pencil, and graphite, with some spicy, floral nuances developing with time in the glass, all emerge from the 2023 Château Branas Grand Poujeaux. Based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 15% Petit Verdot and aged 16 months in 92% French oak barrels with 8% in amphora, it sports a deep ruby hue and has a medium-bodied, concentrated, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's easily the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted, and while I love it today, it will cruise for two decades in cold cellars. There are 5,000 cases produced. Bravo! Drink 2026-2045. |

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years.
