Based on two-thirds Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it shows the balance and elegance of the vintage, as well as incredible purity of fruit. It's already impossible to resist yet will evolve for well over two decades. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (88)The 2020 Destieux has a clean but slightly overdone nose with light peppermint scents coming through with aeration. The palate is full-bodied with quite dense tannins. It's plush but less overbearing than I have found previous vintages of Destieux, managing to retain some freshness and precision on the finish. I'll keep an eye on this. |

The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, quite fresh, slightly chalky in texture, maybe missing just a little sensuality on the finish. It needs three years to fully absorb the oak. But there is a citrus element to this Margaux that I like, with satisfying length. |

Candied apricot, exotic white flowers, mint, hazelnut and chamomile notes confer richness. The 2017 is deep, powerful and wonderfully resonant from start to finish. Moreover, it has very few peers in this vintage, one of them being the top-of-the line L'Extravagant. |

Great stuff, extremely well balanced. A yield of 16hl/ha. 10 months in barrel for ageing followed by nine months in stainless steel. |

The oak comes through a bit here, which is odd after two decades. The palate is vibrant and tensile on the entry, delivering the weight one expects from this Barsac, allied with a fine bead of acidity that imparts tension. Tangy marmalade and quince notes appear toward the finish. This is a fine Doisy-Védrines that is à point. |

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years.
