This is a more zesty Chambertin, lively and even a little tart toward the finish. Does it convey the substance of this noble vineyard? I’m not convinced, and that is perhaps reflective of the vintage, yet after 15 minutes it seems to gain extra layers of complexity, and it's only then you realize that this is the real deal. (made from the equivalent of 2-1/2 barrels of fruit and 1 barrel of wine): Good full, bright red. Highly complex nose combines cherry, raspberry, spices, flowers, minerals and crushed stone. Bright, dark red. Cool, highly nuanced aromas of raspberry, mint, coffee, licorice and crushed stone. Then lush, sweet and seamless in the mouth, maintaining the fresh but ripe impression. Wonderfully plush and utterly without rough edges, with flavors of red raspberry and cool minerality lifted by a seductive floral element. (This fruit is all from the Clos de Bèze side of Chambertin, right above Leroy's holding, according to David Croix.) Camille Giroud's 2015 Chambertin is seamless, rich and inviting. Dark cherry, crème de cassis, menthol, licorice, sage and lavender give the wine much of its regal aristocratic bearing, There is something absolutely impeccable about the way all the elements fall into place here. The 2016 Chambertin Grand Cru has a luscious and generous bouquet with plenty of raspberry preserve and crushed strawberry scents, seamlessly integrated oak and entrancing mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, pliant and velvety smooth, fanning out with supreme confidence towards the pixelated finish. Brilliant. The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a meaty nose, featuring plenty of brambly red fruit, desiccated orange peel and dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-fresh entry. This is a more zesty Chambertin, lively and even a little tart toward the finish. Does it convey the substance of this noble vineyard? I’m not convinced, and that is perhaps reflective of the vintage, yet after 15 minutes it seems to gain extra layers of complexity, and it's only then you realize that this is the real deal. The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is more backward on the nose than Rossignol-Trapet’s Chambertin tasting blind alongside, the fruit is high-toned and darker, whilst the oak is a little more prominent. It loses a bit of finesse and complexity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced, quite muscular in style with a flattering finish.
