Bright full red. Very ripe, expressive aromas of roasted strawberry, mocha, cocoa powder and pepper. (1x75cl) 2002Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)
Good medium red. Complex, pure nose combines black raspberry, blackberry, herbs, mocha, licorice and rose petal. Very tightly wound today, even a bit lean, and hiding more than itÂ’s showing. Highly perfumed flavors of blackberry, licorice and fresh herbs. Finishes with very firm tannins and excellent length. Less sweet than the Chambolle samples, yet harmonious from the outset. I may be underrating this. Half of these vines were replanted in 1987, as Mugnier replaced a large-berried, thin-skinned clone that was particularly sensitive to rot.Inc. VAT£2,483.05 -
(6x75cl) 2003Vinous (90)
The 2003 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has an attractive bouquet of red berry fruit, hoisin, undergrowth and very light peppermint aromas that is fresher than many of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a lactic, chocolaty entry. It is missing the cohesion one usually finds with this cru, although there is good depth and a smudged, cocoa-tinged finish that comes across like a guilty pleasure. (from a blend of 60% white and 40% red soil, says Mugnier) Bright, medium red. Perfumed nose of blueberry, mocha and crushed stone. Plush on entry, then wonderfully fresh in the middle and less plump than the Fuees, with terrific stony verve and mineral intensity to the crushed black fruit flavors. Very broad on the back end. This will rely more on its serious tannins than on its acids for longevity-and it will require at least 10 to 12 years of cellaring.Inc. VAT£1,178.65 -

Good medium red. High-toned, liqueur-like aromas of blackberry, blueberry and smoky underbrush. Densely packed and broad, showing the sappiness and great energy of the vintage. Black raspberry fruit is complicated by iron and mocha notes. The dense finish features slowly rising persistence and surprisingly smooth tannins. Bright medium red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, mocha, brown spices and underbrush. Juicy, fine-grained and light on its feet, offering a rare combination of soil tones, fresh red fruits, minerals, herbs and leather. Delivers terrific delineation without any impression of weight. Flavors of raspberry, coffee and saline minerality perk up the salivary glands on the vibrant, rising finish. Just a touch imploded today--and I suppose it's possible that this wine will further close down in bottle. But it's wonderfully expressive today.Inc. VAT£7,378.84 -
(1x75cl) 2015Wine Advocate (94)
The 2015 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is excellent, opening in the glass with notes of peony, ripe cherries, briary fruits, potpourri, dark chocolate and coniferous forest floor—more wild in profile than Mugnier's other wines from Chambolle. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and deep, with impressive power and a long finish. This is quite a dramatic Bonnes Mares by Mugnier's standards, and the only criticism one could make is that it doesn't possess the ineffable sense of completeness that distinguishes his Amoureuses and Musigny. Discussing his Bonnes Mares, Mugnier notes that half of the vineyard was replanted in 1988 and a quarter in 1980. As these young vines reach age 30, he observes, they have become more Chambolle in character.Inc. VAT£1,990.92 -

Lush, silky and fat; a very rich, dense Bonnes-Mares with a Bordeaux-like texture and lovely harmonious acidity. Doesn't offer the charm of Chambolle but this very solid wine has a strong tannic backbone for aging. In Bond£2,151.00 -

Black fruits, tar, coffee and mocha on the nose; a bit less vibrant than the Chambolle examples. Big, rich, oaky and velvety, but still closed in the middle. Notes of earth, stone and herbs. Finishes with substantial, broad tannins. In Bond£1,947.00 -

Half of these vines were replanted in 1987, as Mugnier replaced a large-berried, thin-skinned clone that was particularly sensitive to rot.In Bond£2,066.00 -

Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2003/2004 tasting in London. In Bond£5,401.00 -

This will rely more on its serious tannins than on its acids for longevity-and it will require at least 10 to 12 years of cellaring. In Bond£979.00 -

The 2008 Bonnes Mares is totally mesmerizing, seductive and haunting; in essence it has all of the qualities that make Burgundy so endlessly fascinating. Soft and ethereal on the palate, the Bonnes Mares exudes tons of vintage character in its perfumed dark fruit. The wine literally floats on the palate all the way through to the eternal finish. This is a dazzling effort. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038.In Bond£1,409.00 -

The 2009 Bonnes-Mares opens with an exotic, beguiling bouquet. Layers of fruit flow effortlessly as this powerful, rich Burgundy shows off its pedigree. The Bonnes-Mares is a thrill a minute, with its intense energy and pure freshness. This is a great showing from Mugnier. In Bond£1,533.00 -

This vineyard was originally planted in the 1950s but Mugnier replanted about half of the vines in 1987.In Bond£3,437.00 -

But it's wonderfully expressive today. In Bond£6,133.00 -

As these young vines reach age 30, he observes, they have become more Chambolle in character. In Bond£1,656.00 -

In the middle of the vineyard. Terres rouges and terres blanches. Small parcel so assembled from the start. Barrel sample. Seductive aroma but in a much richer style than the Clos de la Maréchale. Smells deep and seductive. A perfume I would love to be enveloped in. Sour red cherry and a touch of orange as well as floral. Complex and expressive. Beauty of fruit purity on the palate, like biting into a perfect red cherry, crunchy but sweet and tangy. The tannins are spicy and refined. A complete wine with succulence, fine-boned structure and intensity though not apparently dense. In Bond£903.00 -

The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a tightly-wound bouquet with blackberry and raspberry fruit, hints of wet limestone, quite strict and a little timid. The palate is framed by gritty tannins, quite saline and robust, though for me, this lacks the flow and harmony of the Fuées. I would like to see this after four or five years. In Bond£864.00
