Burghound (94)
Sweet spot Outstanding. This is at once the spiciest and the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its ripe yet ultra-fresh nose of various dark berries, anise and newly turned earth scents. The mouthfeel is also intriguing as it combines excellent density with an appealing sleekness that carries over to the mineral-driven, powerful and compact finale that is wonderfully persistent if very clearly built-to-age. This is almost always Pavelot's best wine and it is highly likely to be so in 2022 as well.Inc. VAT£308.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)
Mid red purple. The sample is not quite as fresh (sample issue, not the wine itself). But the seamless quality of pinot planted in this vineyard manages to show through anyway. There is a volume of dark red berry fruit, a charm through the middle of the palate, much less evident structure though it is clearly there, and a fine long finish. (Antonin has also made a very small volume from Clos St-Jean by the pedicel method, leaving in the small bits of stem but removing the core. This will probably not be sold commercially, but is very interesting. It displays a pinker lift to the ruby colour, and a beautifully lifted nose, bringing out the rose petals, adding a perception of enhanced freshness, multi-layered and still with all the grace.) Vinous (93-96)
Bright, deep red. Reticent but highly complex scents of raspberry, rose petal, white pepper, red licorice and mint. At once silky and sharply delineated, conveying outstanding intensity without any undue weight. Utterly seamless Chambertin if a bit youthfully linear today. The very long, rising finish is lightly saline and classically dry. Fourrier told me he has no plans to produce more than 30% as much négociant wine as domain wine in future years.Inc. VAT£2,691.43 -

Dark crimson. Dense and very deep, cool start but clearly this has grand cru character. Some spiciness. Some majesty. Great tension and raciness. Not as concentrated as some but made with real sensitivity.Inc. VAT£4,139.96 -

Tank sample. Vegy edge to this makes it really interesting. Not the most concentrated Chambertin. But really fresh and racy and almost citrus! Transparent and challenging but very long and persistent and deserves lots of time – yet you could enjoy it today. Really vibrates on the palate. Very lifted – deliberately so. Transparent and a very strong statement. Rather atypical.Inc. VAT£5,156.75 -

The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru has a charming, quite regal bouquet with layers of crushed strawberry, raspberry and crushed iris aromas that blossom with aeration. The palate is very refined, beautifully focused with a silver bead of acidity. There is a sorbet-like freshness from start to finish, a gentle crescendo of flavours towards the blackberry, raspberry and orange zest finish that lingers persistently in the mouth. Superb.Inc. Medium deep red purple with a little bit of spice. Starts gently then it really swells on the palate. All is at the back of the palate with a really classy finish, perfect tension, a very elegant Chambertin.Inc. VAT£3,206.75 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)
This is a blend of Chambertin itself (two-thirds) and one third Clos de Bèze. Glowing imperial crimson purple. The nose has it all, clearly all the nobility it should have. The crunchy mineral tension found throughout the Fourrier wines pays dividends here. There is exceptional intensity but it is beautifully judged. Some liquorice notes but above all an amazing intensity of fruit which lingers long.Inc. VAT£3,465.95 -

Medium red. Alluring floral lift to the aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, crushed stone and sexy oak. Dense, broad and energetic, with a captivating subtle sweetness to the red berry and mineral flavors. Really saturates the palate and builds on the back end, finishing with noble, fine-grained tannins. Fourrier uses the same percentage of new oak to age his négociant and domain wines--around 20%.Inc. Vinous (92-94)
The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has an engaging nose with brambly red berry fruit, pressed rose petals, orange essence and light marmalade aromas. The palate is vivacious and full of energy. There is great tension here, citrus-fresh with orange rind and quince notes infusing the red fruit towards the finish, though it does not possess quite the length of the Mazoyères-Chambertin. Still, this has a lot of potential.Inc. VAT£2,750.69 -
