Vinous (92-94)
The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, which comes from Perrot-Minot’s own vineyard, is a bit sullen on the nose compared to the Griottes. It never quite obtains the same amplitude, feels a little timid, a Charmes that doesn’t charm at the moment probably due to a bit of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple, rounded tannins. The concentration is loaded on the back end of this Charmes though I feel that the Griottes has more delineation and nerve.Inc. VAT£772.79 -
Vinous (90-92)
(35 hectoliters per hectare produced in 2016; half of this wine was from the frosted Les Justices and the other half from Les Seuvrées): Healthy bright red. Aromas of red fruits and spices complicated by wild notes of iron, fresh blood and game. Fat, silky and smoky, showing insidious depth to its perfumed flavors of red fruits, smoke and spices. This superb village wine finishes with lovely length.Inc. VAT£715.09 -
(6x150cl) 2009Vinous (94)
Dark red. Wild aromas of blackberry, licorice, coffee and animal fur. Lush and sweet on entry, then expansive in the middle, with dark berry flavors supported by a strong structure. This is really stuffed with fruit, and there's enough energy here to avoid coming off as heavy. Finishes with big, broad, dusty tannins and superb lingering sweetness. An excellent showing today, but this should be even better for a decade in the cellar.Inc. VAT£5,295.67 -
(6x75cl) 2012Vinous (94)
(production here was just 24 hectoliters per hectare, according to Perrot-Minot): Bright, dark red. Expressive nose melds raspberry, black cherry, mocha, coffee, tobacco and spices, lifted by a topnote of orange zest. Concentrated and wild on the palate, offering terrific sweetness and thickness but also outstanding inner-mouth tension. Dark fruit flavors are complicated by a saline quality and a hint of game. The explosively long, ripely tannic finish shows a medicinal reserve that suggests this wine will evolve very slowly.Inc. VAT£2,433.89 -
Vinous (93-96)
Elusive and ethereal, the 2013 Mazoyères-Chambertin captures the essence of this great site. Violets, lavender, sage, menthol and plums are all laced together in a deep yet weightless Burgundy endowed with stunning finesse and class. Today, the Mazoyères comes across as seriously tannic and closed, which is likely a good thing for the future.Inc. VAT£3,158.29 -
Vinous (94+)
Full dark red. Strong smoky minerality on the nose, with raspberry and spice notes emerging with air; less subtle than the Charmes today but more satisfying and expressive. Plush, fat and sweet on the palate, with the dark raspberry, spice, licorice and black pepper flavors currently dominated by saline minerality. Seriously dense, rich wine with a rising, palate-staining finish that throws off notes of underbrush, tobacco, iron and spices. The noble tannins owe largely to the high percentage of millerandé berries. A superb showing for this wonderfully silky wine, which will probably be for drinking after the Charmes.Inc. VAT£1,649.89 -
Wine Advocate (95-97)
The 2015 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has the most vivacious and intense bouquet amongst Christophe's 2015s, billowing red and dark cherries, creme de cassis, crushed violets and blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and extremely well-judged acidity. As such, there is outstanding focus here and a sense of precision running all the way through to the finish. This is a seriously fine Mazoyères-Chambertin that must rank as one of the best this domaine has produced.Inc. VAT£1,256.36 -
Wine Advocate (95-97)
The 2016 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru clearly is the most intense of Christophe's 2016s on the nose with ebullient scents of black cherries, bilberry, slightly overripe Satsumas and rose petal aromas. It takes a while to get going, but it is worth persisting with. The palate is very harmonious with supple tannin, a silver bead of acidity that winds its way through the layers of pure red fruit and it fans out with a glorious mineral-rich, lightly spiced finish. The mouth is tingling afterward for 30 to 45 seconds. Superb—this is a strong follow-up to the 2015 and may even surpass it.Inc. VAT£554.36 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a really classy bouquet, perhaps more traditional in style compared to Perrot-Minot’s other Grand Crus, earthier with more sous-bois scents, but just as intense. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, corpulent tannins that render this a very voluminous and mouth-filling Mazoyères. Maybe the Chapelle-Chambertin has more nervosité, though this boasts and extremely long aftertaste and a persuasive sense of grandeur.Inc. VAT£637.19 -

‘Outstanding’ A pretty, cool and airy nose is comprised by aromas of maraschino cherry laced with both earth and a plethora of floral elements. The sleek, intense and wonderfully mineral-driven middle weight flavors possess an almost pungent salinity on the bitter cherry-inflected finish that flashes superb length. Like the Gevrey villages, if this can develop more depth with time in bottle this could be a knock-out.Inc. VAT£841.09 -
(6x75cl) 2017Burghound (90-92)
A relatively high-toned, airy and cool nose features notes of pomegranate, red cherry, violets and a touch of the sauvage. The delicious and pure middle weight flavors display excellent delineation on the focused, notably firm and moderately austere finish that offers very fine length. There is a hint of rusticity but overall this is finer than it usually is.Inc. VAT£1,278.04 -
Vinous (89)
The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis en la Rue de Vergy has an attractive earthy bouquet of mainly red fruit and touches of sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and supple in the mouth. Not overly complex, but with an appealing sense of rondeur on the finish. Fine.Inc. VAT£685.09 -

The 2010 Nuits St. Georges La Richemone Ultra, from a vineyard planted in 1902, is super-finessed and classy. The fruit seems to hover on the palate. Dark cherries, plums, sweet spices and mint are some of the many notes that come together in the glass. The precise, understated finish is beautifully articulated. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.Inc. VAT£4,291.00 -

The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Richemoines Cuvee Ultra comes from a small parcel of vines planted back in 1902. It includes 50% whole cluster fruit and there are three barrels this year. It has an enticing bouquet with black cherries, cracked black pepper, tertiary notes and a little undergrowth. The palate has more matiere than the regular cuvee with a fine line of acidity and just a touch more backbone towards the persistent finish. This is very fine and should age well over the next 15 years.Inc. VAT£2,421.49 -
Wine Advocate (89-91)
The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru La Richemoines Cuvée Ultra has a clean and precise, mineral-driven bouquet that is a little austere at the moment, but that will fill out. There is great terroir expression here and real energy. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit on the entry. This is nice structured, grippy in the mouth with good tension. What is needs is a little more flesh to develop towards the finish, as it does come across as very linear and strict at the moment. Let's see how it performs in bottle.Inc. VAT£1,172.29 -

Vinous (94)
Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Combe d'Orveau Ultra. Brooding, highly complex aromas of black cherry, blackberry, tea leaf, game bird and leather. Dense and very intense, with terrific medicinal reserve to the opulent flavors of dark cherry, dark berries and menthol. Can't match the Combe d'Orveau for sheer perfume but this gripping wine shows outstanding finesse of texture for Nuits-Saint-Georges. Very long and very youthful on the back end.Inc. VAT£6,940.18 -
Vinous (93)
Bright full red. Wonderfully vibrant scents of raspberry, cherry, peppery spices, flowers, licorice and bitter chocolate. Silky, saline and dense, conveying a restrained sweetness and distinct soil complexity to the flavors of dark raspberry and smoky minerals. The wine's richness and depth are perfectly cut by mineral-driven energy. This sharply delineated wine finishes with noble tannins and excellent length.Inc. VAT£1,876.28 -

The 2019 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has a very intense bouquet that threatens to overwhelm the sense: black cherries, boysenberry, violet with hints of sage and orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that caress the sense, very Vosne-like in style with a satin-textured and very luxurious finish. This will be impossible to resist in its youth so don’t say I didn’t warn you.Inc. VAT£4,105.56 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a tightly wound bouquet, dark plum and raspberry fruit, a touch of blackberry, the oak nicely integrated although it is staying inside its shell for the time being. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red cherry and raspberry fruit, the tannins finer than I was anticipating, the acidity well judged as it segues into a backward but focused, quite structured finish. Christophe Perrot-Minot's Beaux Monts has very good potential. Tasted September 2016.Inc. VAT£1,449.49 -

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a very attractive, expressive bouquet of quite precocious macerated red cherries, kirsch, orange sorbet and hints of crème de cassis, a little showy but irresistible. The silky-smooth palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, more understated than the aromatics, and the finish is very cohesive and charming. Maybe it would benefit from more length, but it feels very natural and refined at the moment.Inc. VAT£1,808.29 -
