Vinous (90-93)
Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru is dense, flashy and voluptuous, yet also very much in the mid-weight style that defines the Clerget wines in 2017. Super-ripe red cherry and strawberry fruit open up first, with attractive floral and spiced notes that develop later. Fleshy and inviting, the Pommard will be virtually impossible to resist upon release. In Bond£400.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
Matured with 20% whole bunch and the same level of new oak, the 2018 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has an elegant, refined bouquet that gradually unfurls to reveal blackberry, briar and light wild strawberry scents, the stems lending a little pepperiness. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and very well-judged acidity. Delivers impressive tension and structure toward the linear, very persistent finish. This is an outstanding Les Rugiens, one of the best you will find this vintage. In Bond£361.00 -
(3x75cl) 2023Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
30% whole bunch vinification, 20% new wood. A medium deep purple. The nose is immediately compelling with the notes of blood orange mixing in with the red berries. Rugiens= red soil=iron oxide = blood orange. This is an exceptionally complete wine, the tannins being fully folded in to the beguiling fruit. Very nicely done. Very persistent. Drink from 2033-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.In Bond£345.00 -
Vinous (92)
The 2017 Volnay En Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru has a slightly disjointed bouquet that requires only a couple of minutes to gain focus and delineation, though the aromatics lack the vibrancy and purity of the succeeding vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with pretty red cherry and red plum fruit, coming across a little conservative toward the finish, but boy, does this meliorate with aeration! After a couple of hours it suddenly goes up through the gears, developing more precision and harmony than it had immediately after opening. My score reflects this Volnay in full flight. In Bond£287.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Volnay En Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru is matured in 20% new oak and is completely de-stemmed. It offers darker fruit compared to the Volnay Village with raspberry, wild strawberry and cranberry. Hints of briary and sous-bois develope in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a vibrant entry, veins of blood orange suffusing the bright red fruit with a slightly chalky textured finish. Very good tension throughout this Volnay that should give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure. In Bond£267.00
