Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92-94)

Bright, deep red. Tangy red cherry and raspberry aromas are complicated by high-pitched spices, flowers and crushed rock. Sweet, bright and penetrating, but with good supple density giving a seamless texture to the middle palate. In fact, this is quite creamy for the vintage, in spite of its brisk acidity. Spreads out nicely to coat the mouth on the long, perfumed, gripping aftertaste. A terrific vintage for this cuvee.

Vinous (93)

The 2011 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes is absolutely impeccable. Gracious, perfumed and light on its feet, the 2011 captures the essence of this site. Sweet tobacco, dried rose petals and crushed berries all develop in the glass. Above all else, the 2011 is a wine of perfume, silkiness and pure texture. There is so much to like here.

Vinous (92)

Full medium red. Captivating lift to the aromas of musky raspberry, flowers and white truffle. Wonderfully smooth on entry, then a bit reticent but fresh in the middle, showing good floral lift to the raspberry and cherry flavors. Really perfumes the aftertaste, but with its slightly edgy acidity this beauty will need time to open and blossom.

Vinous (92)

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru has a beautifully defined nose of vivid red berry fruit infused with wilted rose petals and peony. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, and so harmonious that you would not guess that the fermentation did not begin until the beginning of December! At 14.2°, the alcohol is disguised, though it does seem to scalp some of the precision.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru has an attractive nose of shimmering red berry fruit tinged with shucked oyster shells and wet limestone/petrichor; the 50% new oak is neatly integrated here. The palate is succulent and fleshy on the entry, delivering all the rondeur you could want from a Chambolle-Musigny but with countervailing tension and spiciness toward the silky smooth finish. So pure! This will give 20–25 years of drinking pleasure.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru was 30% down due to the dry summer. A melange of red and black fruit on the nose, hints of sous-bois and espresso, this opens nicely with aeration but retains composure. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, taut and fresh with a fin bead of acidity with a pixelated finish. Wonderful.

Crafted by the acclaimed winemaker Nicolas Faure, the Bourgogne Aux Argillieres 2021 is a true manifestation of the nuanced terroir of Burgundy. This elegant wine hails from the chalky clay soils of the lesser-known Aux Argillieres vineyard, harvested from 70-year-old vines, contributing to its remarkable depth and complexity. The Nicolas Faure Bourgogne Aux Argillieres 2021 exhibits vibrant red fruit aromas, underscored by a delicate mineral undertone. The meticulous organic viticulture and traditional winemaking methods, which include partial whole cluster fermentation and ageing in seasoned French oak, render a harmonious balance between fruit intensity and subtle spice. The result is a wine of exceptional concentration, structure and longevity, characteristic of Nicolas Faure’s minimalist philosophy. Experience the inimitable Nicolas Faure Bourgogne Aux Argillieres 2021, a testament to the dynamism and diversity of Burgundy’s terroirs.

Vinous (92)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Herbues was the first vineyard Faure bought, in 2011, populated by vines planted mainly in 1964. This has a very well-defined bouquet of raspberry, cranberry and tea leaf aromas, more loamy notes emerging with time. The palate is wonderful and delivers crisp tannins. Kind of "old school" Pinot Noir in some ways, thanks to the 100% stems, but fresh as a daisy and quite persistent on the saline finish. Superb.

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Herbues has a clean, poised bouquet with black plum and light chalky aromas. Orange rind emerges with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, fine gripe and is slightly chalky in texture with a briny finish. Loire-like in a good way.

Burgundy is Pinot Noir’s spiritual home, and nowhere in the world better illustrates terroir than here. Two vineyards side by side result in wines with subtle yet intricate differences in structure and aromatic profile – and often not so subtle differences in price.
