Wine Advocate (92+)Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a rather leafy bouquet, perhaps some stem addition here, nicely defined with bay leaf and thyme. It seems to grow in stature in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, moderate acidity but it has clearly shut down towards the finish and feels static. There is a very impressive wine here, however it will need 4-5 years before it entertains the idea of drinkability. Tasted September 2016. |

Jancis Robinson (18)Riper fruit on the palate with a sort of rhubarb note and loads of cherry and redcurrant. Well integrated leafy bitterness and a long, stately finish. |

Vinous (93-96)Bright, deep red. Reticent but highly complex scents of raspberry, rose petal, white pepper, red licorice and mint. At once silky and sharply delineated, conveying outstanding intensity without any undue weight. Utterly seamless Chambertin if a bit youthfully linear today. The very long, rising finish is lightly saline and classically dry. Fourrier told me he has no plans to produce more than 30% as much négociant wine as domain wine in future years. |

Vinous (92-94)Medium red. Alluring floral lift to the aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, crushed stone and sexy oak. Dense, broad and energetic, with a captivating subtle sweetness to the red berry and mineral flavors. Really saturates the palate and builds on the back end, finishing with noble, fine-grained tannins. Fourrier uses the same percentage of new oak to age his négociant and domain wines--around 20%. |

Wine Advocate (93)Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos appears to have really upped the ante in the last few months. There are more tropical tones on the nose compared to other Chablis les Clos, exotic at first, but it calms down with time in the glass and bestows lovely apricot blossom and quince aromas. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry. Well balanced with a keen thread of acidity, I appreciate the tension and energy here and the salinity that comes through on the aftertaste. This should give 10-15 years of pleasure. Tasted May 2016. |

Perfectly capturing the essence of Burgundy, the Guy Castagnier Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2013 is an exemplary vintage. This fine wine is meticulously crafted by the renowned producer, Guy Castagnier, in the prestigious vineyards of Clos de Vougeot, the largest Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Nuits region. Reflecting Guy Castagnier's expertise and commitment to quality, the 2013 Grand Cru embodies an intricate palate with opulent tannins, enveloping dark fruit notes and a subtle hint of sous bois, offering a refined, ageworthy composition. Traditional vinification methods are used, with grapes handpicked and aged in French oak barrels, enhancing the complexity of this robust red. As is common to Burgundian treasures, it pairs beautifully with hearty meat and cheese meals. Enjoy a true representation of terroir in the Guy Castagnier Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2013, a remarkable testament to the splendid elegance of French viticulture. |

A pinnacle of French wine, the Joliet Fixin 1er Cru Clos de la Perriere 2013 is an ode to the timeless art of winemaking. Bestowed with Premier Cru classification, the finest vineyard soils were hand-selected by the renowned Joliet family, administering organic practices and traditional winemaking methods to the process. On the palate remains a succulent combination of dark cherries, plums and distinct mineral undertones, fashioned through 16 months of barrel ageing, albeit its complexity, it's exceptionally balanced. Vinous (88)Medium red. Smoky saline and earth notes on the nose, with red fruits in the background. Inviting flavors of raspberry and flowers are perked up by a minty nuance. A moderately ripe, juicy wine with good energy and a firm tannic spine. Pierre-Jean Roty noted that this wine showed an exotic fruit character during its élevage. |

Jancis Robinson (17.5+)Mid crimson. Scented and heady. Super charming. On the nose it’s almost Oregonian! But on the palate there is Burgundian structure. Still a clear framework and ambition; this is not a slack Charmes. Well done for espousing grand cru quality. Needs food if you want to drink it now. But just about ready. |

Wine Advocate (92)The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques was cropped on October 12, entirely destemmed and underwent a 20-day maceration, spending 13 months in oak. It has a wonderful bouquet: very well defined with forest floor, soy and brambly red berry fruit. There is very good intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good depth and harmony with a crisp, white pepper-dashed finish. There is already a sense of completeness here and will be well worth seeking out when released in the spring. It has the hubris to outperform both the Charmes-Chambertin and Clos-de-Bèze! |

Burghound (95)An elegant, pure and broad-ranging nose is composed of very fresh, cool and airy aromas of both red and dark currant, spice and earth scents where the wood treatment is admirably subtle if again not invisible. There is a lovely mouth feel to the attractively intense and well-concentrated flavors that coat the palate with dry extract before culminating in a refined, well-balanced and beautifully persistent finish. Like the Griotte this is an overtly robust and powerful wine that will require an even longer snooze in a cool cellar. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2013 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is located in the lieu-dit of Mazis-Bas, between the vines of Bernard Dugat (Dugat-Py) and Domaine Maume. Matured in 90% new oak it has a fine clarity on the nose, the oak a little prominent, but that will meld together with time. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit mixed with blueberry, vanilla and a slither of marmalade. This is quite opulent but it remains nicely controlled with a long finish that is in the same style as Bernard Dugat’s Mazis. This is a knockout wine from Roty, a vin de garde that demands considerable cellaring. |

Wine Advocate (97)Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 La Grande Rue Grand Cru has a backward and broody bouquet, very complex with hints of woodland, damp earth and fern filtering through the tightly wound red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple and very fine, almost filigree tannins. The acidity is beautifully judged here -- very focused and refined, seamless towards the sophisticated finish. This is one of the best vintages of La Grand Rue that I have tasted, which is a considerable achievement given that this was not an exemplary growing season. Tasted September 2016. |

Burghound (93-96)Here the nose is restrained to the point of being all but mute and only aggressive swirling coaxes the grudging aromas of pear, white peach, apricot, acacia blossom and discreet menthol nuances. As is usually the case there is more size, weight and muscle to the medium weight plus flavors that possess a hint of bitter lemon on the massively long finish. What I find interesting about the 2013 Bâtard is not only that it is more elegant then usual but also that it manages to deliver so much volume and power without any appreciable weight. In a word, brilliant. |
